NECA Toys is offering their King Kong figure that is based on the 1933 classic film, which as you recall, was the very first film. This figure is notable for including two creatures that you will recall, including the Pterodactyl, and the two legged Lizard Crawler.
Thank to you to NECA Toys for providing their King Kong 1933 Classic 7″ Scale Figure for review.
Availability: June 2021
King Kong is packaged in a window box with an opening flap, with beautifully done artwork on the cover, sides, and on the back are images of him along with a description. The opening flap also includes an image of him, and he is packaged in a plastic tray along with several accessories and creatures.
King Kong stands at 8″ tall, and features an incredible figure sculpt as we’ve seen from the company, including Godzilla figures and everything else they offer. King Kong is quite impressive, and comes with sculpted fur throughout the figure, and skin textures. The figures includes two interchangeable head sculpts, that are newly sculpted compared to the previous release, with one featuring a hinged jaw, and the other an angry facial sculpt and expression, with the mouth closed and the teeth touching.
King Kong is offered is cast in black, with a dark and light brown wash over it and this very nicely done. The inside of his mouth also looks realistic with the great attention to detail in the sculpt and paint applications. Both of the head sculpts look amazing detailed, with excellent detail in the eyes, nose and mouths. The heads are ball jointed, allowing him to move it in a realistic way, which works great for the overall look and design of the figure.
The sculpt also includes scratches and some battle damage detail with blood on the scars but the blood on the fur that the previous version had was not brought over to this new release. The same with his head sculpts, as the blood wash was also removed. The scratches and scars is from all the fighting he did on Skull Island with the many dangers of the jungle, and they have done a great job capturing this detail.
This new release is notable for including several accessories that you did not get before, including a club, a Two-legged Lizard and a Pteranodon. Both creatures are so well done and sculpted that they almost look realistic to the film. The lizard features a hinged jaw and a swivel neck, with some blood deco on his teeth. The Pteranodon also has a hinged jaw, with just as impressive deco, with the back being colorful with red and blue. The Pteranodon also has trouble standing on his own, and it’s best to lean him against something.
He is also fully articulated, including a ball jointed head, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, double hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed torso, ball hinged hips, double hinged knees, and rocker ankles.
King Kong also includes three sets of interchangeable hands, included open, gripping and closed fisted hands. With all of the great articulation, interchangeable heads and hands, this allows many great poses to be created including film inspired and using your own imagination.
Overall, King Kong is an excellent figure with great attention to detail, excellent sculpting and deco, and a realistic looking design. You definitely need to pick him up especially if you’v been buying their Godzilla and other monster figures.
