NECA Toys SDCC 2021 Walmart Exclusive TMNT II: The Secret of the Ooze 30th Anniversary Super Shredder Figure Review

This years San Diego Comic-Con announcements had some big announcements for not only Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but many other licenses as well. As part of this years exclusives, NECA and Wal-Mart are offering this exclusive TMNT II: The Secret of the Ooze 30th Anniversary Super Shredder Figure that pays homage to the “European Packaging” version. This is the third offering of this figure, which included movie accurate, and vintage toy homage offered so far.

The Shredder lives! After suffering defeat at the hands of the turtles, the leader of the Foot Clan plots his revenge. Desperate to vanquish his foes, Shredder consumes the last bit of mutagen to transform himself into the hulking Super Shredder. Based on his appearance at the end of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze, Shredder stands approximately 9.5″ tall and comes with exclusive purple deco based on the early 90s toy, a brand new belt, a brand new fabric cape, interchangeable hands, a bishamon yari, and a mutagen canister. The packaging is a tribute to the European release poster for the movie and has an opening front panel.

Thank you to NECA Toys for providing their SDCC 2021 Walmart Exclusive TMNT II: The Secret of the Ooze 30th Anniversary Super Shredder Figure for review.

Availability: August 2021

Super Shredder is packaged in a large window box with an opening flap, with with beautifully done artwork in a metallic silver and black, images of him on the front, sides and back. Super Shredder is in a plastic tray along with his accessories, and the opening flap has an image of the figure.

Super Shredder is part of the deluxe line, and is an oversized figure and includes a big bulky and muscular figure sculpt, and stands at 9.5″ tall making him the tallest figure in the line at the moment. Super Shredder’s sculpt has one of the most impressive designs in the line, with all those blades and attention to detail on the head sculpt. This larger size allows these details to stand out more than on a smaller figure, and that is defiantly a plus. His head is sculpted with some great attention to detail, including scars on the face, eyes looking through the mask, added ridges and blades on the helmet. The helmet also includes a face shield that is nicely done with a wash that is as detailed as the rest of the armor, which is painted to make it look worn. There are some additional details and textures here as well.

The blades on his armor are also longer than the previous pre-mutated 7″ scale figure, which we also saw in the film, and are made of a softer plastic, which limits the risk of breakage as you are moving the joints and swapping out the hands. The blades can be found on the shoulders, shin guards, and wrist guard.

The outfit is also nicely detailed and mostly painted in a dark purple, black, dark grey, metallic silver blades with a blue wash on them. The dark purple and black defines his muscular body in the suit, and defiantly stands out.  The armor is now metallic purple deco wash. Parts of the armor you also see the metallic silver deco. The cape is made of fabric and is brand new, and the shine on the back is quite impressive. The belt is brand new, with the purple wash, new buckle, and spikes sticking out the sides.

Super Shredder includes 7 interchangeable hand sculpts (closed fisted, open grip, open grip for the canister, and open hands), a spear, and a canister of TGRI mutagen. The spear can be held in the open grip hands, there is a hand offered just for the canister, and the open hands are best to grab a turtle. The spear and canisters are given some new deco, including a blue wash, on the blades of the spear, and most of the canister.

Comparing Super Shredder to his first two releases. This one stands out with the shade of purple in the outfit, including the purple on the armor, and new belt buckle. The helmet is also repainted and you can see the differences in the deco in the image above. The cape is also new, and very different than what has been offered before.

Even though Super Shredder had a brief appearance towards the end of the film before meeting his demise, it’s a memorable one. NECA has done an incredible job on this figure and he far exceeds expectations anyone might have had when seeing images of him online. The attention to detail, accessories and overall great likeness is incredible. Fans will truly love this release, and he fits in great with that has already been offered.
