NECA Toys The Boys – Homelander & Starlight Figures Review

NECA Toys The Boys – Homelander & Starlight Figures Review

NECA Toys is offering a new line of figures based on the hit Amazon Prime series The Boys, which is based on the comic series. The series follows a ragtag group of mercenaries as they take on a powerful organization known as Vought International, and the superhero team known as The Seven. The group is led by Homelander, who is the primary hero as most people see him as. But he has a dark side that no now knows about until it’s too late, and also one of the main antagonist as he is actually a serial killer that rules with fear and uses his powers to enforce his will and eliminate threats. Starlight is the newest member of The Seven, and ends up working with the mercenaries to uncover the truth and serves as a spy.

NECA kicks off this line with these two iconic characters from the series, and will be offering new figures down the road. These figures are available everywhere now, and links to buy are below.

Thank you to NECA Toys for providing their The Boys Homelander and Starlight figures for review.

Availability: July 2021

Homelnnder and Starlight are packaging in window boxes with opening flaps, with nicely done artwork on the packaging. The back includes images of the figures, along with a description on top. The opening flap includes another image of the figure, and inside the box is the figure securely placed in a plastic tray along with their accessories.

Homelander stands just over 7″ tall and is sculpted in his blue outfit, with gold details such as the eagles on the shoulders, belt, and eagles and the line details on the boots. The forearms and collar is red with gold deco, which is nicely painted. The outfit includes sculpted textures that makes him look more realistic. The head sculpt features a great likeness to Actor Antony Starr, with the great sculpted facial details, paint application, and blonde hair with the paint washes.

Homelander’s articulation includes a ball jointed head, ball hinged shoulders, double hinged elbows, swivel forearms, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed torso, ball jointed hips, double hinged knees, hinged and rocker ankles. The ball jointed hips causes the hips to be larger than it appears on screen, so that’s the only aspect about the figure to look not proportional to the rest of the body.

The fabric cape is nicely done and is embedded at the shoulders. The red, white and blue American flag looks great and they did a nice job on this.

Included with Homelander are three head sculpts, two of them are similar with facial expressions, and the third one can be used for the eye beams and has holes in the eyes that it plugs into. Also included are two sets of interchangeable hands, including open and closed fisted.

Starlight stands at just under 7″ tall and is sculpted in her white and gold outfit, with the white parts having a sculpted texture, and the gold feating details such as the logo on her chest, belt, stomach, forearms, and design on the boots. Starlight is a thinner character, and NECA’s design team scaled her perfectly to how she look on the show. The skirt is made of a soft vinyl, and underneath that it has the same pattern as the cape with the golds dots. Starlight’s cape is attached at her shoulder joints, which gives the illusion of it being stitched in.

Her articulation includes a ball jointed head, ball hinged shoulders, double hinged elbows, swivel forearms, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed chest, swivel waist, ball jointed hips, double hinged knees, swivel boots, hinged and rocker ankles.

She includes an interchangeable head sculpt, and both of the expressions look similar, with one of the portraits featuring her eyes painted white to show her powers being activated. The paint apps and facial details are nicely done, and she features a great likeness to Actress Erin Moriarty. The hair is a softer plastic with a wash over it. She also includes interchangeable forearms, and two sets of interchangeable hands (open and closed fisted) that can work with either of the forearms.

Overall, NECA’s The Boys Homelander and Starlight figures look amazing and they did a great job on the attention to detail and likenesses. The attention to detail and quality on these are also excellent, and fans will surely want to pick these up. These figures are currently shipping, and you can find them at the stores listed below.
