NECA Toys is offering their King Kong (Concrete Jungle) figure that is based on the 1933 classic film, which as you recall, was the very first film. This figure is based on his scenes towards the end of the film, where he climbs the Empire State Building, in shackles, and swats at airplanes flying around and shooting at him.
Thank to you to NECA Toys for providing their King Kong (Concrete Jungle) 7″ Scale Figure for review.
Availability: June 2021
King Kong is packaged in a window box with an opening flap with 5th panel front cover, with beautifully done artwork on the cover, sides, and on the back are images of him along with a description. The opening flap also includes an image of him, and he is packaged in a plastic tray along with several accessories and creatures.
King Kong stands at 8″ tall, and features an incredible figure sculpt as we’ve seen from the company, including Godzilla figures and everything else they offer. King Kong is quite impressive, and comes with sculpted fur throughout the figure, and skin textures. The figures includes two interchangeable head sculpts, that are newly sculpted compared to the previous release, with one featuring a hinged jaw, and the other an angry facial sculpt and expression, with the mouth closed and the teeth touching.
King Kong is offered is cast in black, with a dark and light brown wash over it and this very nicely done. The inside of his mouth also looks realistic with the great attention to detail in the sculpt and paint applications. Both of the head sculpts look amazing detailed, with excellent detail in the eyes, nose and mouths. The heads are ball jointed, allowing him to move it in a realistic way, which works great for the overall look and design of the figure.
Aside from the new accessories, there is no difference in sculpt or deco between this release, and the first release that came with the creatures. This release is notable for the shackles and airplane accessories, which is a must-have for this line.
The sculpt also includes scratches and some battle damage detail with blood on the scars but the blood on the fur that the previous version had was not brought over to this new release. The same with his head sculpts, as the blood wash was also removed. The scratches and scars is from all the fighting he did on Skull Island with the many dangers of the jungle, and they have done a great job capturing this detail.
The figure includes two interchangeable heads(one with jaw articulation), multiple interchangeable hands, a set of shackles and an airplane. The shackles and airplane are a great accessories and are inspired from the end of the film. The shackles fit over the wrists, but first you need to remove the hands to put them on, and slide them onto the wrists. These includes real chain links, and are painted in a metallic silver. The airplane is a great bonus accessory and fairly large. It features a rotating propeller in the front, and two humans sitting in the cockpits, one piloting, and the other shooting at King Kong.
With his open grip hands, King Kong can hold onto the body of the Airplane.
He is also fully articulated, including a ball jointed head, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, double hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed torso, ball hinged hips, double hinged knees, and rocker ankles.
King Kong also includes three sets of interchangeable hands, included open, gripping and closed fisted hands. With all of the great articulation, interchangeable heads and hands, this allows many great poses to be created including film inspired and using your own imagination.
Overall, King Kong(Concrete Jungle) is an excellent figure with great attention to detail, excellent sculpting and deco, and a realistic looking design. This new release definitely needs to be added to your collection just to own the new accessories.
