Diamond Select Toys are now offering the first wave of their Invincible figures, including Omni-Man, the alien father, and Invincible. These figures are based on the Amazon Prime series, which is based on the comic book series. The series follows 17-year-old Mark Grayson, and his transformation into a superhero. His father is an Omni-Man, is an alien superhero. Mark finds himself struggling between his personal life and superhero duties, where he will be forced to prove that he can be the hero that his father is.
Thank you to Diamond Select Toys for providing their Invincible figures for review.
Availability: December 2021
Both figures are packaged in a window box with artwork inspired from the series, including images of their heads and the logo on the front, images and artwork on the sides along with a window, and images on the back as well as a description.
Invincible comes in his yellow, light blue and black outfit, with a smooth sculpt and nicely done crisp paint apps. The yellow and blue are bright colors that really pop out of the black. The head sculpts is nicely done and looks accurate to the source material, including nicely done facial details, and sculpted black hair. Both head sculpts are unique, including a closed and open grin mouths, each with these bug-shaped eyes and a yellow mask covering most of the head.
Included is a piece of concrete with steel fibers sticking out the sides, three sets of interchangeable hands (closed fisted, open grip, and flying), a baseball, a baseball with speed effect, a hand with a baseball glove, and a base with a flight stand. The flight stand can also plug into his back so he has the effect he’s off the ground in flight mode.
The baseball plugs into the fighting stand as shown, and there is a hole on the side of this particular baseball, and you can line it up with the glove hand so it looks like he can catch it.
Omni-Man also has a great likeness to the series, and comes in his light grey and red outfit, with a cape made of a soft plastic, and nicely done and crisp paint apps. The sculpt is also smooth with some sculpted grooves in-between the deco, and he has a slightly bigger builder than Invincible. The head sculpts are nicely done, each with their own facial expression, including a closed mouth, and a grinning mouth. The head sculpt also has black hair with grey sides, a black mustache and eye laches.
Included are three sets of interchangeable hands (closed fisted, open grip and flying), a hand with a baseball sculpted to it, a hand with a baseball glove, and a base with a short flight stand.
The articulation is standard for the Select line, so if you’re familiar with lines such as Marvel Select, you basically know what to expect here. This includes a ball jointed head, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed torso, swivel-hinged hips, swivel thighs, hinged knees, hinged and rocker ankles for Invincible, and hinged ankles for Omni-Man.
Overall, the designers really did a remarkable job these sculpts, giving them the best possible likeness to the cartoon, including great paint apps and overall great quality figures. The accessories are also nicely done with great attention to detail, including the baseballs. The first wave looks to be selling out quickly, so it’s highly recommended to get your orders in right away.
One aspect about the figures you probably aren’t aware of is that it’s a bit difficult to pop on and off the heads to swap these out. That could be because there are these tiny bumps on the ball joint, and you’re going to need a hair dryer to loosen up the joint before popping it on and off.
