Thank you to LEGO for sending along their Jurassic Park 76956 T-Rex Breakout Set for review.

Availability: April 2022

This LEGO Jurassic Park set comes packaged in a standard rectangle box, with instructions, and over 9 bags with pieces to build this set. The instructions start off by introducing you the a behind the scenes look at the set, including the designers, and background information of all the components from the film that inspired various details throughout the set. Some additional details and shown as you move into building the set, and you get a look at what inspired these details, such as the signage on the street and fencing, flares, water glasses, night-vision goggles and more.

The set starts off with the standard street scene, with plants behind the fence, the large fence to keep the animals from getting out, and cracks in the concrete including T-Rex footprints and damage from the Ford Explorer being turned over by the T-Rex. The fence is also broken with the wires hanging down, and this done by using some soft plastic pieces on both sides of the fence.

The T-Rex itself is scaled perfectly for this set, and comes loaded with articulation and easy to move around. He is meant to be posed with one foot on the street (there’s a platform for the right foot in-front of the Ford Explorer), and the left foot on top of the vehicle. Some notable parts of this build including the facial details, such as the stickers for eyes, an hinged jaw with the tongue and feet, along with sharp toe and fingernails. The tail is also articulated and can curve, but keep in mind that it’s greater than 23″ long with the tail.

The damaged Ford Explorer has no top, and is meant to be upside down in this set to indicate that the top part was crushed when the T-Rex placed his weight on it. The other vehicle is undamaged, and has more of the details as shown in the photoshoot. The vehicle does not have doors, unfortunately, but you can lift the roof to place the mini-figures inside.

The Ford Explorer has some interior features, including a CD-ROM touch-screen monitor, two water glasses that shake as the T-Rex approaches, and in the back you can store a flashlight and night-vision goggles.

Also included are four mini-figures, and this set includes Dr. Alan Grant, Dr. Ian Malcolm, Tim Murphy and Lex Murphy. Each of these are new LEGO mini-figures that are offered in this set, including new deco and outfits. Dr. Grant is given a light blue shirt, light tan pants and a light tan hat, while Dr. Ian Malcolm comes in a black outfit with pockets, and glasses. Both Tim and Lex make their debut as mini-figures, and given some muddy deco on their clothing. Ian Malcolm, Tim and Lex have alternate facial expressions on the other side of their heads, while Alan Grant does not. Grant also comes with a hair piece that can be swapped out with the hat, and Tim can wear the goggles as he does in the film. Both Grant and Malcolm also includes a flare that they used in the ilm to lure the T-Rex away from the vehicles.

Overall, LEGO have once again offered a great Jurassic Park set that’s inspired from the classic 1993 film, and this scene is one of the most memorable one’s from the film. You get a lot of goodies with this set, including the new mini-figures, T-Rex and the Ford Explorer that easily makes the set worth picking up. The details continue to impress and this makes a fun display piece with your glowing collection. Highly Recommended.
