Throughout the Dragon Ball Z series, there weren’t too many villains that were more powerful than Goku and one’s that he could not defeat, that was until he fought Cell in the Cell Games after he reached his final form. As Goku lost his match to Cell and asked his son, Gohan to step in and ultimately defeated Cell. Created by Dr. Gero and the Super Computer, Cell was the ultimate weapon made using DNA of multiple human and alien characters, including Saiyan, Numekian, as well as Frieza and his father King Cold when they visited earth to get revenge of Goku and the Z Fighters sometime after being defeated on Planet Namek.
Bandai Collectibles is now offering Cell in his first form in their popular S.H. Figuarts Dragon Ball Z line, and he is based on the Cell Saga from the series. This is the form we first saw being he consumed Android’s 17 and 18, at which point his forms changed each time.
Thank you to Bandai Collectibles for sending along their S.H. Figuarts Dragon Ball Z Cell 1st Form Figure for review.
Availability: November 2022
Cell is packaged in the standard S.H. Figuarts box, with artwork and images of the figure on the front, sides and back. Inside, he is packaged in a plastic tray, along with his accessories for safe keeping. Interestingly enough, the sheet of instructions has ben removed and these are now located on the inside flap of the sides.
Cell pays tribute to his appearance in Dragon Ball Z, and has insect like features, including a beak-like mouth, feet with three toes, five-fingered hands, segmented armor, sprouted wings and a long tail affixed to the middle of his back that ends with a stinger used to absorb other life forms. The figure sculpt is a great likeness to his appearance on the show, and features a green skin tone with two shades, black grooves as well as blue joints in the shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees and ankles. He also has an orange and black chest, orange crotch, and on the back of the neck.
The head sculpt includes four face plates, with a normal, smile, mouth opening, and screaming beaks, all with unique eyes. The foreheads are also interchangeable, as he comes with two different one’s.
Cell also includes 4 additional interchangeable hand sculpts, and an interchangeable tail with a stinger and suction cup that was shown when he swallowed the androids.
Cell also features all of the articulation that you’ll be used too in the S.H. Figuarts line. Including a ball jointed head, butterfly shoulders, ball-hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed torso x2 (top and bottom), ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, swivel-hinged and rocker ankles and hinged toes. The tail is also articulation with the end being a ball jointed and 2 swivel-hinged joints.
The suction cup tail can’t devour one of the androids as the head can only be placed on top of it, but it’s fun to pose it like this.
Overall, Cell is given the best likeness and figure sculpt we’ve ever seen for the character, and the design team have once again outdone themselves capturing the amount of detail given to this figure. Cell is an essential part of this collection, so make sure to grab him now.
