NECA Toys Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures Slash Figure Review

NECA Toys are now offering their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures Slash Figure that is based on the comic book series from Archie Comics. The Mirage Comics offerings came first, with Fugitoid, and the recently released Renet, Casey Jones and Ultrom. NECA is now expanding their TMNT comic line with characters from Archie Comics, starting off with Slash, and this representation of the character is the best version of the character in NECA’s line thus far.

Thank you to NECA Toy for sending along their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures Slash Figure for review.

Availability: January 2023

Slash comes in a window box packaging, with beautifully done artwork inspired from the comic series, images of the character on both sides, images of the figure and a look at what’s coming on the back.

Slash has the right amount of bulkiness that’s actually missing from his predecessors in this line even though different likenesses were worked on with those figures. When you think of Slash, he should be a bulky turtle to be a menace and formidable to the heroes in a half shell. That’s what this version of Slash offers, and NECA’s team has just knocked this one out of the park with capturing the Archie comics likeness, and while giving fans a new version of Slash that you need to own.

Slash uses some shared parts with the animated Tokka figure, which I still haven’t taken out of the packaging. This is a clever reuse of parts and works exceptionally well for both characters. Slash is given a dark green skin tone with darker green lumps on the skin, a sculpted belt with details and objects on the front, and pouches on the back of the shell, spiked knee pads and elbow pads, shoulder pads, a spiked shell with a ton of spikes all the way around it and on the center, and claws right next to his hand sculpts. These claws are fragile as swapping out the hands means you need to pay extra close attention not to break the claws, so use a hair dryer first to loosen up the joints. The shell is painted in a different shade of green than the body, with black deco in-between the grooves. He also has a white and blue belt and shoulder pads with black deco, as well as the accessories but also given a brown handle. There’s a lot going on with his design, so take a close look at all of these details.

Slash includes a handful of accessories, including three sets of interchangeable hands, a sai, and a second bladed weapon that looks to pay tribute to the one that came with the vintage toy. The hands includes closed fisted, open grip with the ability to secure the weapons right in the palm, and grabbing hands.

His articulation is standard of the line, and includes a ball jointed head, ball hinged shoulders, swivel bicep, swivel-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed hips, hinged knees, hinged and rocker ankles.

Overall, Slash is simply phenomenal and a great addition to the line. While he’s Archie based, he design works well with the cartoon and Dark Horse lines and he fits into the overall vibe of the collection. if this is only the first figure, you know we’re in for a real treat as more characters are coming, and I saw a few of them in-person while visiting NECA back in November, and they look incredible!! Make sure to grab Slash and additional figures now!
