Hasbro Marvel Legends Astonishing X-Men Cyclops & Emma Frost (Ch’od Build-A-Figure) Figures Review

Hasbro’s Marvel Legends Ch’od Build-A-FIgure wave is a popular one for sure, with most being inspired from the 1990’s, with Cyclops and Emma Front being inspired from 2004’s Astonishing X-Men. This wave offers a great assortment of characters that have some first-time appearances in the Marvel Legends line, despite its 21 year run. Also included is Corsair, the father of Scott and Alex Summers, and leader of the Starjammers. Also included are Fang, Monet St. Croix, Kid Omega, Chamber of Generation X, and Ch’od of the Starjammers as the build-a-figure.

Cyclops and Emma Frost are each packaged in a the standard Marvel Legends box, which is plastic-less but does show off images of the figures inside, images on the sides, a look at Ch’od and which figures come with the part to build him, and images of the figures and their accessories on the back. This packaging has been quite controversial amongst fans and collectors, and the biggest concern has been you cannot see what’s inside, allowing concerns about theft of the inside contents, which has been going on if you buy these at brick and mortar. Online retailers such as Entertainment Earth you don’t need to worry about that segment. Interestedly enough, Hasbro is bringing back plastic to the packaging, which is worse for the environment, but better for collectors.

Cyclops comes in his Astonishing X-Men outfit, which is mostly dark blue, gold trim, gold thick bracelets, and a gold belt with the X-Men logo belt buckle. This outfit is one of his most recognizable appearances, and in a darker blue and similar gold compared to the 1990’s Jim Lee design.

His head sculpt is mostly masked, and being covered with the exception of his nose, mouth and chin. The optic blast is inside his visor, in which a powerful blast comes from the visor, or from his eye balls directly.

Cyclops comes with two sets of interchangeable hands (closed fisted, and two open), and a removable optic blast effect. He is also the only figure in the wave not to include a build-a-figure piece.

He is also fully articulated, and includes a ball jointed head, butterfly shoulders, ball jointed shoulders, swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ab crunch, swivel waist, ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, swivel calves, hinged and rocker ankles.

Emma Frost also comes in her Astonishing X-Men outfit, which is mostly in white, with a long cape that is wrapped around her shoulders and attached to her chest. She also has a white belt, with a gold and red X-Men logo belt buckle, white high-heels, and gloved hands.

Her head sculpt has a stunning likeness to the comic, with long blonde hair, painted facial details that includes eyes and mouth. She also has a white collar around her neck.

Emma Frost includes the right leg of Ch’od, and two sets of interchangeable hands (closed fisted and open).

Emma Frost is also fully articulated, and includes a ball jointed head, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, swivel-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ab crunch, ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, hinged and rocker ankles.

Overall, It’s always a crowd pleaser to see more X-Men characters, even updates with new tooling, to join the Marvel Legends line, and this wave in particular offers a lot of new offerings that fans will surely enjoy. Both Cyclops and Emma Frost are fan-favorites, and these will surely be welcome additions to your collection. Despite a strong wave, the only downside here is that Ch’od is a repaint of 2016’s Abomination Build-A-Figure, with some new parts unique for him. It makes no sense to share parts for these characters as they are not supposed to be the same species, with the exception that Hasbro wanted to cut costs and not offer Ch’od properly, with a new sculpt and tooling.
