Hasbro Marvel Legends X-Men Fang & Kid Omega (Ch’od Build-A-Figure) Figures Review

Hasbro’s Marvel Legends Ch’od Build-A-FIgure wave is a popular one for sure, with most being inspired from the 1990’s. Fang is a member of the Shi’ar Empire and the Shi’ar Royal Guard assigned to protect Lilandra, and he is based on his classic appearance. Kid Omega was a student at the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning, and changed his ideology to that of Trask. This wave offers a great assortment of characters that have some first-time appearances in the Marvel Legends line, despite its 21 year run. Also included is Corsair, the father of Scott and Alex Summers, and leader of the Starjammers. Also included are Monet St. Croix, Astonishing X-Men Cyclops, Emma Frost, Chamber of Generation X, and Ch’od of the Starjammers as the build-a-figure.

Fang and Kid Omega are each packaged in a the standard Marvel Legends box, which is plastic-less but does show off images of the figures inside, images on the sides, a look at Ch’od and which figures come with the part to build him, and images of the figures and their accessories on the back. This packaging has been quite controversial amongst fans and collectors, and the biggest concern has been you cannot see what’s inside, allowing concerns about theft of the inside contents, which has been going on if you buy these at brick and mortar. Online retailers such as Entertainment Earth you don’t need to worry about that segment. Interestedly enough, Hasbro is bringing back plastic to the packaging, which is worse for the environment, but better for collectors.

Fang comes in his classic outfit, and includes a light orange and black stripe outfit, with black gloves and boots. He comes with a bone necklace, bone belt, bone bracelets and bone boot cuffs. The bones are made of a soft plastic, and the necklace and belt have a skull in the front. His head sculpt pays a great likeness, and has werewolf features, including the hair, teeth, nose, ears and eyes, and given he’s an alien, his race does have many of the features of an earth werewolf.

Included with Fang is the head and the small white creature that hangs on Ch’od’s shoulder, and two sets of interchangeable hands (clawed and closed fisted).

He is also fully articulated, and includes a ball jointed head, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ab crunch, swivel waist, ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, swivel calves, hinged and rocker ankles.

Fang is a great choice for Marvel Legends as it gives us another essential character for the Shi’ar Imperial Guard, as Hasbro has only released Gladiator (twice now), and Lilandra’s head that came with Mystique. It’s long overdue for more members and it’s very possible Hasbro won’t get to them all, given that there’s 300 members. But at the same time, they should get to the Imperial Guard that first fought the X-Men in the Phoenix/Dark Phoenix saga, which had both Gladiator and Fang, so we’re headed in that direction.

Kid Omega comes in his black outfit, with pink lines on the torso, and arms. His head sculpt has some nice facial details, with pink sculpted hair, and pink glasses that are made of a soft plastic. It seems that Hasbro offset some costs on some of the other figures in this wave by offering Kid Omega, as he’s mostly cast in black plastic, it cut costs, but at the same time, it feels that this slot should have been given to a Shi’ar Royal Guard member or Starjammer member, and not someone based on an early 2000’s story arc.

Kid Omega comes with alternate hands (two sets – closed fisted and open grip), a blaster and the torso of Ch’od.

He is also fully articulated, and includes a ball jointed head, butterfly shoulders, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed torso, ab crunch, ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, swivel calves, hinged and rocker ankles.

Overall, It’s always a crowd pleaser to see more X-Men characters, and Fang is certainly a great choice and much needed to the overall collection to have more Shi’ar Royal Guards into the line. Kid Omega however isn’t one that I would have wanted if it wasn’t for the build-a-figure piece inside the box. Ch’od, despite being a repaint (with a new head and belt) from 2016’s Abomination, is also an essential character to own.
