Hasbro Marvel Legends X-Men Starjammers Corsair & Ch’od Figures Review

Hasbro’s Marvel Legends Ch’od Build-A-FIgure wave is a popular one for sure, with most being inspired from the 1990’s. The Starjammers are finally getting their rightful place in this line, and Corsair and Ch’od are first-time offerings, which is also the case for some of the other figures in this line. This wave offers a great assortment of characters that have some first-time appearances in the Marvel Legends line, despite its 21 year run. Included in this wave are Monet St. Croix and Chamber of Generation X, Fang of the Shi’ar Imperial Guard, Astonishing X-Men Cyclops, Emma Frost, and Kid Omega.

Corsair is packaged in a the standard Marvel Legends box, which is plastic-less but does show off images of the figures inside, images on the sides, a look at Ch’od and which figures come with the part to build him, and images of the figures and their accessories on the back. This packaging has been quite controversial amongst fans and collectors, and the biggest concern has been you cannot see what’s inside, allowing concerns about theft of the inside contents, which has been going on if you buy these at brick and mortar. Online retailers such as Entertainment Earth you don’t need to worry about that segment. Interestedly enough, Hasbro is bringing back plastic to the packaging, which is worse for the environment, but better for collectors.

Corsair is the leader of the Starjammers, a team of space pirates, and he is the father of Scott and Alex Summers. Hecomes in his classic red and black outfit, with a yellow insignia on his chest. He also has a dark blue collar, blue belt around his chest with a gold round buckle, and a red bandana around his head. The belt also comes with a hole to fit the sword through for storage. His head sculpt includes painted eyes and lips, with brown sculpted hair and mustache.

Included with Corsair is the right arm for Ch’od, a blaster, sword, and two sets of interchangeable hands (closed fisted and open grip).

He is also fully articulated, and includes a ball jointed head, butterfly shoulders, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ab crunch, swivel waist, ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, swivel calves, hinged and rocker ankles.

Ch’od is a repaint from 2016 Abomination figure, with some newly tooled parts including the head, belt, forearms, and hands. This sculpt was used as both characters have some of the same characteristics, including the two toes and a reptilian body. That is why they used this sculpt, but at the same time they did go ahead and tool up some new parts. Obviously in the eyes of die-hard fans that know who Ch’od is, the ideal way would have been to better capture his likeness as seen in the comics by giving him what he truly needed, a all-new sculpt. While it’s close to some degree, what is missing are the sculpted lines on the chest and legs as seen in the comics, and they even skipped painting the toe nails and finger nails.

The head sculpt is all-new, which helps save the figure to some degree, and they did a nice job capturing his likeness. The ears and facial details are great, especially the red eyes, sharp teeth and the jaw being hinged is also a plus.

Ch’od’s chest, shoulders, hips and legs are all from Abomination, all painted in a light green. The spin and top of the shoulders and sides of the neck have a lighter green.

Ch’od includes his white alien creature, which has sculpted textures, black eyes, and a ball jointed neck.

He is also fully articulated, and includes a ball jointed head, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ab crunch, swivel waist, ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, hinged knees, hinged and rocker ankles.

Overall, It’s always a crowd pleaser to see more X-Men characters, and Corsair and Ch’od fill in a much needed gap for Starjammers into this line. This wave surely offers a great mix of characters from various teams, which is something you don’t normally see in Marvel Legends, and hopefully will see more of these teams going forward. I personally want all of, at least the one’s that make the most sense of The Shi’ar Royal Guard, Generation X and especially the Starjammers.
