NECA Toys Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Mirage Comics) Splinter Figure Review

NECA’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Splinter is based on the original comic book series from Mirage Studios, and this was the first-time the character was introduced. Splinter was mutated by the original Ooze that mutated the Turtles, and grew up learning martial arts from their Sensei to fight the Foot Clan. Splinter includes a cloth robe, walking stick, broken TCRI canister, baby Turtles, tea pot and cup, Mouser, Utrom (Krang), interchangeable hands, and pre-mutation Splinter.

Thank you to Entertainment Earth for sending along NECA’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Mirage Comics) Splinter Figure for review.

Availability: December 2023

Splinter comes in a window box packaging, with beautifully done artwork inspired from the comic series, images of the character on both sides, images of the figure and a look at what’s coming on the back.

Splinter stands at 4″ tall, which is short for a line with 7″ scaled figures, and comes with sculpted brown fur with black highlights, and a soft goods robe over the sculpt with a light brown belt and a bendy tail. The head sculpt includes white eyes, light grey nose, white teeth, and brown sculpted fur with black highlights.

His articulation includes a ball jointed head, ball jointed torso, swivel-hinged shoulders, swivel-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed hips, swivel-hinged knees, hinged ankles. and a swivel-hinged and bendy tail.

Splinter includes three sets of interchangeable hands, tea pot and Cup, four baby turtles that are non-articulated, and a can of mutagen that the turtles can climb onto. The baby turtles are painted in the same shade of green, with no identification marks. The can of mutagen is spilled, and the Ooze is around the canister, that also has the TGRI text on both sides. The tea pot includes a swivel handle, and he can hold it in his open grip hand.

The Utrom brain is newly tooled compared to the version that came with the SDCC 4-packs from years ago. This new release is painted in a darker shade of pink with black highlights, yellow eyes, and white teeth, with different facial details and an expression, color and no moveable parts, whereas the SDCC version has articulated tentacles.

The MOUSER is also new, and comes in a light grey and blue deco, with a hinged jaw, hinged hips, hinged knees and hinged ankles. The mouth has interior details, including robotic parts.

Splinter also comes with a pre-mutated version of himself, which is non-articulated and also comes with brown sculpted fur, and a dark pink tail.

He stands shorter compared to the classic cartoon release, as he should as this release is comic-inspired.

Overall, Splinter is a beautiful figure and an essential character to the Mirage Comics inspired line. The likeness and attention to detail is top notch and fits in perfectly with the collection. This is surely a character you need to add to your toy shelf. Make sure to grab him and additional figures now!
