Hasbro shocked the community when they announced that Crystar was going to be joining their Marvel Legends line, as this is a character that has not gotten any attention since the 80’s. He was introduced by Marvel Comics back in 1983 with a limited success, and even had a toyline – The Saga of Crystar that fans from that era will surely remember. Back in the early 80’s, Marvel also published G.I. Joe and Transformers comics, but Crystar is a character that they own to this day and it’s possible they are looking at resurrecting him for a modern era. If the success of this Marvel Legends release has anything to prove, is that Crystar has some new life in him and it’s surely possible we’re going to see more of him.
Crystar is part of The Void (Build-A-Figure) wave, which also includes The Vision, Namor, Namorita, Black Panther, Justice, and Power Princess. Each figure is priced at $24.99, and some figures in this wave, such as Power Princess, Namorita and Crystar appear to be flying off shelves.

Crystar is packaged in window box blister card, with the Marvel Legends logo, and themed artwork on the package. Images of the character inspired from his comic appearance are on both sides, and the back. Also on the back is another image, a description and a look at the full wave and The Void. The return of the plastic tray is back so you will once again be able to see exactly what’s inside the package. Environmental friendly packaging is gone, so if you can, recycle this plastic!
Crystar is inspired from his vintage toy from the early 1980’s, and comes in translucent blue plastic that covers most of the body, red boots, red gloves, red shorts and red on the helmet. The body looks like a crystal, and has some nicely done sculpted details to pay tribute to this.
The head sculpt has a non-removable helmet, whereas the vintage toy had that, this one does not. The eyes are also painted white, and the rest of the head is the translucent blue plastic (with the exception of the red parts of the helmet).
Included with Crystar are parts for The Void, two sets of interchangeable hands (closed fisted, 2x open grip, and one open hand), a sword and shield.
His articulation includes a ball jointed head and neck with a hinge joint, swivel-hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ab crunch, swivel waist, ball jointed hips, swivel-thighs, double-hinged knees, hinged and rocker ankles.
The closed fisted and open hands are great for posing, and the right hand is closed fist, and open is for the left.
The two open grip hands can hold onto the sword, is is made of the same translucent plastic as the body.
The shield is made of transparent plastic, and has a handle on the back so his open grip hand can hold it. Both of these accessories has some great details and they went all out to match the source material on this.
Overall, Crystar is a great figures that fans will surely want to add to their collections. He’s obscure, and maybe most of you don’t know who he is. But he’s such a cool looking figure and has that nostalgic vibe. The detail and likeness looks great and this is one wave to complete to build that gorgeous The Void Build-A-Figure.
