Mattel – WWE Ultimate Edition Finn Balor Figure Review

Mattel is now offering the next wave of their Ultimate Edition figures, and this wave includes Finn Balor and Triple H. The Ultimate Edition line is an upgrade to the Elite Collection, and adds more detail, additional articulation, additional accessories and paint applications for the $29.99 price point.

Finn Balor is an Irish professional wrestler that signed on with WWE in 2014 and appeared on NXT. His demon mode persona pays tribute to the mythical king of a race of demons called the Fomhóraigh, which is a supernatural race of hostile and monstrous beings who come from under the sea or the earth. In this form, his personality also changes and he remains undefeated. In this form he becomes fierce and overpowers his opponents.

Thank you to Mattel for providing their WWE Ultimate Edition Finn Balor Figure for review.

Availability: December 2019

Finn Balor is packaged in a new type of window box that is styled different than the packaging for the WWE Elite figures, and has action shots of the wrestler on the back, a brief bio, and an image of him on the right side. The figure and all of his accessories are carefully placed in a plastic tray, which is nicely displayed in the box and gives you a good look at what’s included.

Finn Balor is given the Ultimate treatment as part of the third wave by Mattel, and this beautiful looking figure is in his demon form that features a removable ring gear entrance attire that he wears while in this form. The demon form has multiple variations and Mattel has been offering figures based on each of these different styles and looks. All of these include fearsome teeth, and some of the variations include the tongue handing out as seen with this one. His entrance gear includes a removable headdress, with white and black ribbons, removable red and black wrist ribbons, and a red soft-goods sarong that goes around his hips.

Finn Balor’s detail is incredible, and Mattel’s design team, such as Bill Miekina, recreated his chest paint with printed labels that are placed on his body, which includes the iconic look of the demon mouth, with teeth and a tongue on his chest and a mouth with teeth on his back. Both of his head sculpts also have some great detail, and are also given two distinctive facial expressions with his teeth grinning, and the other one with his tongue sticking out. The head sculpt is black, with red and white around his eyes, and additional detail on the back of the head and neck.

The sculpt is slim and muscular, but what sets this figure apart is the amount of detail on the mouths and other applications on the body and attire. He is sculpted in black trunks with a red pattern, red and black ribbons on his biceps, black knee pads that are made of a soft plastic with teeth and gums on it, and black boots.

Finn Balor’s demon form is one of the most iconic characters in professional wrestling in modern history, and possibly second to that would be Bray Wyatt’s The Fiend, which Mattel is also currently working on making a figure of him. This figure has a great representation and the customization possibilities for display gives you many different options in either of these looks, alternate head sculpts and the two sets of interchangeable hands that have the teeth on them as well, and red stripes on his forearms.

Finn Balor is fully articulated and includes a ball jointed head, ball jointed torso, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, swivel waist, ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, swivel boots, hinged and rocker ankles and hinged toes.

Overall, Finn Balor is an excellent figure and this is one of the definitive versions of him that you can own. The customizable options with the head sculpts, and accessories are all great additions to display him. Finn Balor is a great choice for the Ultimate line and we hope to see more like this. Mattel has also confirmed that Brock Lesnar and Shawn Michaels are coming in wave 4, so that will be great.
