Hasbro Marvel Legends 6″ Wal-Mart Exclusive Vibranium Suit Black Panther Figure Review

Black Panther is getting a lot of attention lately following his appearance in Captain America: Civil War, and the announcement of the Black Panther Movie, which is the first all black cast in a superhero film. While this is going to be a historic film, Marvel is wasting no time in getting the Black Panther out there more so in the past year than he’s previously been showcased. This of course means a lot of Black Panther product, which includes both film and comic book based costumes and characters. This year, Wal-Mart is offering a new exclusive of Black Panther in his Vibranium Suit, which is based on his appearance as seen in Marvel Comics.

Black Panther was guaranteed to get many figures in the Marvel Legends line following the announcement of his own film, which includes both film and comic based figures. Last year, Hasbro offered Black Panther in his own wave in Marvel Legends, which was split between both film and comic appearances. One surprise was that there were no comic based Black Panther figures such as this one, and while the movie based figures were just ok, it did give fans an opportunity to collect comic based Namor, Black Bolt, and Invincible Iron Man.

This Black Panther figure features the black costume, which he’s mostly cast in black, with pink deco detailing the Vibranium Suit. This suit is an unusual release for Black Panther, as most of his costumes are either completely black and/or with some gold deco. The Vibranium energy in his suit consists of detailed patterns of lines in the suit and mask, which is showcased on the head, chest, back, forearms and hands, and knees. The mask also includes yellow eyes, which looks great. Wakanda, Black Panthers African nation has been weaponizing Vibranium and using them for energy blasts, daggers, and more over the years. This is the first-time fans can see this used in his costume, and it’s a compelling figure.

As this is a powered-up version of the costume with pink deco, a depowered  version will likely been unveiled as Hasbro likes to offer as many repaints as possible to help pay for tooling costs, and this figure will likely see an all black costume as opposed to the pink highlights.

Black Panther includes a standard articulation for modern Marvel Legends figures, and includes an extra head sculpt without the pink deco, a removable necklace, two sets of interchangeable hand sculpts (fisted and clawed), and a set of energy bursts for his fisted hands.

Overall, this is an excellent figure that is very cat-like, and given all the great articulation he can create some dynamic poses with his hand sculpts and energy bursts. Marvel Legends collectors should add this figure to their collection, as the pink highlights adds something new that you won’t have compared to other Black Panther figures.
