Diamond Select Toys is offering the completion of the fountain diorama in this wave of their Nightmare Before Christmas Select figures. This wave includes Pajama Jack, Zero and Behemoth and Corpse Boy. Diamond Select Toys also recently unveiled additional figures that will be offered in this line during New York ToyFair, which includes Easter Bunny with Igor, Wolfman with Melting Man, Vampire Jack with Batboy that are part of the 5th wave. Series 6 can be seen from our ToyFair coverage. The fountain diorama is now complete, and is showcased in this review.
Thank you to Diamond Select Toys for providing Pajama Jack and Zero figures for review.
Availability: December 2018
Pajama Jack is tall, lean and thin and is sculpted similar to other Jack figures in the Select line. He stands at roughly 9″ tall and is sculpted in his pajama’s as seen in the film. This includes the long sleeve shirt and pants, hat, and black shoes. The skeletal head sculpt and hands are shown, with a long neck that is also a peg. The articulation is the same as previous Jack figures, and as you know he is also somewhat fragile. Included with Jack is a figure stand with a base.
Jack is the only figure in the wave to not include a final piece of the fountain diorama, and instead comes with a chalkboard he used in the film to figure out a formula. The chalkboard is painted in black, with white deco used for the formula to indicate white chalk. The board is in a dark wooden brown frame, with legs on either side, and detailed decor on the top and bottom. There are also Christmas style green leafs and veins with red balls on the top of the frame. The chalkboard can swivel, but the back image showcasing the reindeer would be upside down if you turn it. The chalkboard stands on a white and black marble floor with pegs so that the legs can be inserted into it. There is also a book and what appears to be a basket for Zero for sleep in.
Zero is sculpted as a ghost dog, with a white cloth for a body that is made of plastic, a long snout with a orange nose, and long ears that are wave and also looks like they’re made of cloth. He is also sculpted with black eye sockets and a red collar. The only articulation that Zero has is a swivel neck. Included with Zero is a dog house grave, dog bowl, a candy cane bone and the circular fountain piece of the diorama. Zero also has a figure stand and base.
The dog house grave is painted in a dark grey, and comes loaded with sculpted detail and textures to match the on screen likeness. The word Zero is sculpted on the top, with the head of Zero sculpted below it with two white bones crossed with an X. There is a cross on the roof, and the sides and back and protected with a fence that is made of soft plastic.
Behemoth is fat, bald, and his eyes looks like a zombie, and his flesh tone is white with a light blue wash over it. The top of his head has an axe through it, as well as stitches just above the eyes. Behemoth is sculpted in blue overalls with a light wash over it, and the overalls include a sculpted texture. He is also bare foot, with his feet also painted in white with a light blue wash over it. The head and shoulders are ball jointed, and the hips can swivel. The range of motion on the shoulders are limited and the arms don’t move that much.
Corpse Boy is sculpted in grey skin, eyes that are stitched shit, an open mouth, a white and black striped shirt with tears that are painted in a light green, and black shorts. Corpse Boy is shirt, fat and bald, and includes a ball jointed neck, and ball jointed shoulders. Also included is a present with a frightening doll that can stand on top. The present is orange with black spiders, and a grey ribbon around it. The doll features a frightening face with sharp teeth, and a black and white outfit with white buttons. Also included in this set is the last stone flooring needed for the fountain.
The fountain is now complete, and if you purchase waves 2-4, you will be able to build your own. The fountain rests on the stone flooring that came as four separate pieces and has a dark grey with a light wash over it. The fountain piece that came with Zero in this wave rests on top, and has green slime. The serpent snaps into the green slime with the bottom, as well as the green slime tongue. The serpent has a long body, and small wings on the back, and the slime comes out of his mouth and into the fountain.
Overall, with the completion of the fountain, The Nightmare Before Christmas Select line looks great, and fans will definitely want to pick up this wave as well as previous waves. With two new waves announced at ToyFair, we can only speculate the line will be offering more characters from the film as time goes on.
