The Disney Store continues to offer exclusives products other than their Toy Box action figure series that we’ve been previously showcasing in reviews, and this set is based on the live-action Black Panther Movie released this year. This box set are made up of figurines, and includes Black Panther, Okoye, Erik Killmonger, Nakia, Shuri and Rhinoceros.
The Black Panther Movie made history as being the first all black Super Hero cast, and the film introduced fans to Wakanda, a hidden Country ruled by the Black Panther and his people. The starred Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa / Black Panther, with Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis. The film has grossed over 1.2 billion worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film of 2018, as well as the fourth highest-grossing film ever in the United States and 10th highest-grossing film of all time. During its four-day opening weekend, it grossed a total of $242.1 million and its three-day gross of $202 million in the United States were the second and fifth highest of all time respectively, and the biggest debut by an African-American director. One thing is for sure, Super Hero movies are going to be around for a long time with results such as this, and these numbers don’t even reflect what the product based on the film brought in.

The Black Panther Movie figurine set by The Disney Store includes all of the films most desirable characters, and they even threw in the Rhinoceros just because they can. These figures stand at roughly 3″ tall and have a much better movie likeness compared to other collectibles on the market, which does include Hasbro’s Marvel Legends 6″ figures. When you can remove the articulation, accessories and size of the figure, it’s less costly to give the figure(s) details that they need to better represent their character. These figurines are perfect examples of this, as each one has an excellent likeness and are in action poses, with some holding their accessories.
The Black Panther and Erik Killmonger are the two primary characters in the film, and both are sculpted in their black suits with the gold and silver details sculpted in the armor respectively. The Black Panther is the shortest as he is sculpted with his knees bent ready to strike as a panther would. Erik Killmonger also has bent knees, with his claws also ready to strike. The details on both of the sculpts include some textures that give it definition, which is a nice touch.
Wakanda is known for its warriors, and this set includes Okoye, Nakia and Shuri are offered in this set. Each of these characters are sculpted as they appeared in the film, with some bright and dark colors, accessories, and remarkable head sculpts that looks almost like the Actresses. The paint applications are so good on these that even the smallest bit of detail is covered, especially the tattoos on Shuri’s head sculpt. Nakia is holding her rings, Okoye has a spear, and Nakia has her energy blasters.
This leaves the set with one more surprise, and that’s the Rhinoceros. This figurine is a rhino covered in armor as depicted in the film, and even has a saddle for someone to ride him. Unfortunately, as these are PVC figurines, there isn’t a figure in this set that can sit on him. The saddle includes two handles to hold onto, and the armor covers his upper back, hips, most of his head, and parts of his legs. The figure is non-articulated, but is in an action pose as if he’s ready to charge with his front right knee bent and his head on an angle. The armor is nicely detailed with multiple designs and patterns sculpted on, and the paint applications are a metallic copper, dark silver and brown, which goes well together. The rhino’s skin is textured and there are small lines sculpted in it, which is a nice touch.
Overall, this is a nice set with a great amount of detail and movie likeness. Fans of the film, and especially collectors that enjoy these types of figures and collectibles will definitely like this set. This set is exclusive to the Disney Store, and is priced at $14.95 USD.
