Mattel and Super7 have teamed up and are offering a collection of WWE M.U.S.C.L.E. Figures inspired by the golden age of Wrestling, such as legends of the ring as seen in the 1980’s and 1990’s.
M.U.S.C.L.E. stands for Millions of Unusual Small Creatures Lurking Everywhere, and was a 1980’s toy line of figures. This was originally a line of PVC gum wrestling figures in 1985 through 1988, and offered in Northern America. In recent years, Super7 re-introduced this particular style to the collecting community and fans have been able to collect a wide range of franchises in various colors such as Masters of the Universe, Alien, Street Fighter, Iron Maiden and more.

The golden age of wrestling was a fantastic time for the sport, as it not only made it into what it is today, but led the way to a brand new generations of fans that are also familiar with Wresters during this time period. Mattel and Super7 kicked off this line with many great classic characters, which include Andre the Giant, Macho Man Randy Savage, The Ultimate Warrior, Million Dollar Man, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Rowdy Roddy Pipper, Jake The Snake Roberts, Sgt. Slaughter, Mean Gene Okerlund, Ric Flair, Junkyard Dog, and Iron Sheik.
Mattel and Super 7 were smart to offer these legendary characters in the original color that they were offered in the 1980’s, and to use wrestlers in the ring during that time because it pays homage to the vintage M.U.S.C.L.E line. If you’ve been following our coverage for quite some time, you may recall our video walkthrough with Super7 during New York Comic-Con 2017, at which point they were showing these figures off as well as explained to us why Hulk Hogan wasn’t in this line-up, as he’s one of a few legends that probably should have been added. They did however get a dozen superstars, even Sgt. Slaughter (also known to G.I. Joe fans and collectors) in this initial launch. The figures resemble the superstars likeness very well, and some of these are more recognizable than others just because they are so iconic to the sport.
Andre the Giant stands taller than the rest of the line, as he’s supposed too, and the word giant is even in his name. Andre stands at 2 1/4″ tall, and the majority of the others stand at roughly 1 3/4″ tall. Just like the vintage line, they are PVC non-ariticulated figures that are in beige plastic, or bubble gum as they were commonly offered in the 1980’s. The details on their clothing and wrestling outfits are there, and even some have accessories such as Hacksaw’s 2×4, Jake Roberts snake is around his neck and chest, Junkyard Dog’s chain, Mean Gene’s microphone, Million Dollar Man’s money belt and cash, and Macho Man’s belt. All of the accessories and clothing are part of the figure sculpt.
You may also recall that this wrestling ring doesn’t quite match this particular style, as this is the WWE Retro Ring that we just reviewed that is meant for the 5″ figures. These M.U.S.C.L.E figures don’t have a ring, so you will have to be creative when displaying these.
Overall, we love it when something old is new again, and these retro style M.U.S.C.L.E Wrestling figures will definitely grab the attention of many collectors. Grab these now while you can.
