Hasbro’s San Diego Comic-Con 2018 Exclusive offerings saw an unexpected release this year with the Star Wars The Black Series 6″ line, which offered a 2-pack of Han Solo and Mynock that are based on The Empire Strikes Back. This set is based on the scene when the Millennium Falcon goes inside the mouth of that giant space worm, and inside Han Solo, Chewbacca, Luke Skywalker and others realize they are in the belly of a beast. This set features some of the best packaging artwork that we’ve ever seen from Hasbro, which includes the Millennium Falcon and interior details as seen in the film. With packaging like this, it’s hard to want to open it, but we’re doing it, and the best way to open this packaging is by pulling each side open, and opening it from on of the sides. Otherwise, you run the risk of damaging the sides, which you don’t want to do.

The packaging of the Han Solo and Mynock is some of the best offering we’ve ever seen from Hasbro as an exclusive set, which features the Millennium Falcon and the atmosphere inside the body of the space slug. The exterior of the packaging has artwork featuring the outer detail of the Millennium Falcon on the front, and The Black Series logo, with a description on the back. The packaging is a window box that opens up by pulling both sides, and reveals the interior of the Millennium Falcon, and the included figures inside the element of the space slug. Opening the packaging can be tricky, and its best to open it from one of the sides. On the plastic there is smoke as seen in this scene of the movie, which is a nice touch.
Hasbro’s latests The Black Series figures offer great attention to detail and look almost like the actor and character that they are based off of. Han Solo features a great likeness to Actor Harrison Ford, and is based on his appearance of The Empire Strikes Back. This figure is the spitting image of the film, and is sculpted in his iconic dark blue jacket, white shirt, brown pants with yellow stripes down the sides, black boots, a black belt with a silver belt buckle, and a brown holster with silver belt buckles on the front and back. The holster also has a black wash over it, with additional silver deco giving it additional detail and looks just like it did in the film. The clothing also includes folds on the jacket, shirt and pants, and the jacket around the torso and holster are made of soft plastic. His head sculpt is spot on as far as likeness, and this makes up for some of the earlier figures that didn’t look this way. Included with Han Solo is his iconic blaster, a hydrospanner, an interchangeable left hand, a breathing mask and tube tube so he can breath in that atmosphere and goes around the back of his head and over his mouth, and the end of the tube clips on his jacket, and another accessory that he can hold. The tube and breaking mask are mostly made of clear soft plastic, with the end of it is beige.
His articulation includes a ball jointed neck, swivel-hinged shoulders, swivel-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed torso, ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, double hinged knees, hinged and rocker ankles.
The Mynock looks great, and is soft plastic and is painted in dark and light brown. The creature looks like a giant space bat parasite, that can chew through starship cables energy conductors, and can drain a ships energy reserves. The facial sculpt is nicely done and detailed with a circular mouth with teeth. The wings are made of an even softer plastic, and has a light brown wash over it. The creature is non-articulated, and cannot stand on his own, leaving you to use a generic figure stand as he does not come with one himself. The sculpt on him is most impressive, and features multiple textures and some great detail that looks like he does in the film.
This box set is exclusive to San Diego Comic-Con and HasbroToyShop in August. We would like to thank Hasbro once again for providing this set for review.
Overall, Han Solo and Mynock are great figures with superior sculpts and attention to detail that fans will love. If the figures aren’t enough for you, that packaging should close the deal as we love the cardboard diorama inside. Star Wars fans and collectors would surely want to add this figure to their collection. This is probably one of the better Star Wars 6″ figure exclusives Hasbro has offered in years, with the exception of last years Grand Admiral Thrawn and Luke Skywalker with Speeder.
