The Avengers: Infinity War three pack is packaged in a window box with artwork and movie stills on the front, side and back. On the back, there is a brief bio of each of the characters, and the side there is a description of the film.
Thanos was originally the build-a-figure in his own wave in the Avengers: Infinity War offering from Hasbro last year, and that figure was based on an earlier design from the studio that Hasbro’s Marvel team was working off of, which is why it had a darker purple skin tone among other deco that wasn’t movie accurate. This new figure from the box set is inspired by this screen appearance, and includes the light purple skin tone, gold deco on the armor, a bronze (as opposed to gold) Infinity Gauntlet with multi-colored stones, and the Gauntlet is also retooled in an open position as opposed to a closed fist. The gold armor on the chest also has a pattern painted in it that really looks great. The stones themselves are retooled, and are smooth as opposed to the textured and pattered detail that the first release was given.
The primary base of the sculpting remains the same, including the chest, arms, right hand, hips and legs, which has all been repainted. The chest armor keeps the dark blue deco, including the piece around the hips. All of this includes the sculpted texture.
Thanos is also given two new head sculpts including a grinning, and closed mouth that is unique to the one offered in the previous release. The grinning head sculpt has more detail including the fact that you see his teeth, and also there are lines in his face from this expression.
The articulation remains the same, which includes a ball jointed head, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ab crunch, swivel waist, ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, hinged and rocker ankles.
Doctor Strange is given a beautiful updated figure that better captures his movie likeness. The figure keeps most of his sculpt that was previously offered including the chest, left arm, hips and legs, and is given an all new head sculpt that uses the digital scanning technology to capture the likeness of Actor Benedict Cumberbatch. Hasbro has come a long way in a few short years as seen in recent Marvel and Star Wars 6″ figures using this new technology, which always comes out with great likenesses. The right forearm is also brand new and features magic effects that are sculpted to the arm, and attached to the fingers, and are permanently connected.
The figure is given a lighter shade of blue in his outfit, with some dark grey on his belt, and keeps the dark blue on his arms, legs and black boots. The left arm keeps the brown straps, and there is some light blue in the costume in-between the straps. The belt looses some of the detailed deco compared to the earlier release, and is all one color now except for the ring that is painted in silver. The necklace around his head is removable, and is given some new green deco in addition the gold. The cord that is connected to the medallion lost some detailed deco, and is mostly black and brown, but lost the detailed deco in-between the brown sculpted detail where the string is wrapped around it.
The cape is also new, and has different patterns and textures on both sides, along with the red deco being brighter. Also included is the same translucent orange magic effect piece that does not have the white deco on the front, and an alternate right hand.
His articulation includes a ball jointed and hinged head, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, swivel waist, ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, swivel boots, hinged and rocker ankles.
Iron Man has a brand new feature – a light up Arc Reactor, which has an LED function that activates by pressing the red button below it. This suit of amor is the Mark L, and was used to fight Thanos in the film. This suit keeps the traditional red and gold color scheme, which is mostly painted in red with trim throughout the suit. It also is given some silver and light blue deco.
The Mark L is a new type of armor that is also the first of its kind to use nanotechnology, and this figure reuses some shared parts with the one that was offered in the Thanos Build-A-Figure wave. In addition the light-up Arc ReActor, Iron Man includes two energy effects that connect to his hands, and two interchangeable fists. The light-up function has a level on his back, which has different ways to light up including a 15 second or as long as 15 minutes as specified in the directions.
His articulation includes a ball jointed head, ball hinged shoulders, swivel elbows, hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, hinged and rocker ankles.
Overall, this box set is one of Hasbro’s most popular Marvel Legends offerings right now given the fact that stores can’t seem to keep it in stock, and sales on his are looking pretty strong. This is because of all the new details, deco and sculpting given to these figures that fans have been wanting, such as the new movie-accurate deco on Thanos, new head and forearm for Doctor Strange, and the light-up Arc ReActor for Iron Man. This is definitely worth picking up, and fans will definitely enjoy this set.
