Diamond Select Toys Marvel Select 7″ Beast Figure Review

Diamond Select Toys is now offering the long awaited release of their Marvel Select 7″ Beast Figure, complete with the danger room diorama. Beast joins other X-Men characters released over the years, including Cyclops, Colossus, Gambit, Wolverine, Magneto, Nightcrawler, Cable, Storm and the upcoming Rogue figure.

The newest Marvel Select figure is a beast! Longtime X-Man and Avenger Hank McCoy, a.k.a. Beast, joins the long-running Marvel Select action figure line, adding to the already extensive X-Men line-up. Featuring approximately 16 points of articulation and interchangeable hands, the 7-inch figure comes with a new section of the Danger Room, with climbing bars for the team’s resident super-genius gymnast. Combine it with the other X-Men’s sections of the Danger Room to forge a larger diorama! Packaged in the famous Select packaging, with side-panel artwork for shelf reference.

Thank you to Diamond Select Toys for providing their Marvel Select 7″ Beast Figure for review.

Beast is sculpted by Jean St. Jean and stands at roughly 7 3/4″ tall and is inspired as he appears in Marvel Comics. Beast is covered in sculpted textures that indicate his blue fur, and the fur is painted in a mixture of blue and dark blue wash. The body features a muscular sculpt while maintaining that beast-like body, and the fingernails and toenails are painted in a lighter blue and are sharp indicating he can scratch an opponent. The only clothing he has are the black shorts, with some blue deco and a yellow belt with an red and black X-Men logo as the belt buckle. On this figure, there is some bleeding from the blue going onto the yellow belt, but that will vary on a figure basis.

The head sculpt has a ferocious expression with his mouth open and the glaring white eyes. The mouth features the tongue painted in red and the teeth are sculpted sharp and white, and he has additional features such as the pointy ears, fur on the sides of his head, and a sculpted hairdo that is pointy from the back.

Beast is fully articulated, which includes a ball jointed neck, ball jointed torso, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, swivel-hinged hips, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, hinged and rocker ankles.

Included with Beast are two sets of interchangeable hand sculpts, and a Danger Room diorama.

The Danger Room is similar to what has previously been seen with other X-Men figures, and includes two walls, a floor, and two bars for Beast to hold onto and use his agility capabilities. The size of the figure and the diorama makes it hard to really get some more dynamic poses during his training session, as the Danger Room would almost need to be twice this size so he can really cling onto the bars without hitting the other wall. The Danger Room diorama is nicely done regardless and does create a decent amount of room for him to do some standing poses while holding onto one or two bars.

Overall, Beast has finally joined the Marvel Select line and features an excellent sculpt and attention to detail. X-Men fans will surely want to add him to their collections.
