Mezco Toyz One:12 Collective DC Comics Darkseid Figure Review

Mezco Toyz is now offering their One:12 Collective DC Comics Darkseid Figure, which is made of Poly-Stone with casted metal accents. Darkseid stands just under 7 1/2″ tall and has about 28 points of articulation. He includes a light up helmet with four sap out face pieces, multiple interchangeable hands, a magnetic cloak, a Mother Box, and a figure stand.

Availability: January 2019

Darkseid comes packaged in a tin with foam inserts to protect the figure from damage, and each of the accessories and figure has its own place in the foam for safe storage. The tin isn’t shown in the gallery as there was just too much refection light bouncing off. The tin features artwork, and images of the figure on the back.

This Darkseid from Mezco is truly something special, as the character has never been done with so much detail to the sculpt, including the one that the Four Horsemen did for Mattel years back. Darkseid is made of Poly-Stone with casted metal accents, along with fabric vest over the sculpt, which is why he comes with such a high price point. The Poly-Stone parts are sculpted in segments, which means this isn’t a statue, but an articulated figure with articulation just like other One:12 Collective figures. The Poly-Stone is full sculpted and has a great resemblance to his comic book appearance, with the dark grey deco and cracks in the arms, legs and face.

The figure has four faceplates that connect to the magnetic helmet, which one of the face plates has the Omega Beam light-up eyes effect. All four of the faceplates has translucent red eyes allowing the light to pass through it. This is achieved by inserting the batteries and turning the switch on the bottom of the head. The face plates are easy enough to swap out, but just make sure to be extra careful with the Omega Beam eye effect faceplate, as the red lasers are very fragile.

The rest of the sculpt is nicely detailed, and he has a fabric Apokoliptian ceremonial cloak with an armored harness. The armor includes sculpted details with great paint applications, including the boots and gloves that are painted in two shades of blue and silver. The boots have holes on the bottom so the figure can stand on the peg on the base, but he doesn’t need it at all as he can stand pretty well by himself. Darkseid also comes with an acrylic stand that he also doesn’t necessarily need due to the weight of the figure. The boots also have metal heels, and sculpted detail on the bottom as well. The gloved hands are interchangeable, and includes two fisted, two open hands and one hand that can hold the Mother Box super-computer. Mother Box super-computer is also made of metal, and can be stored on the back of the belt by magnetically connecting to it.

The figure also has a cape and shoulder harness that magnetically attaches to the body, and the cape is made of fabric. The cape is nicely detailed with great paint applications and attention to detail. It does not get in the way of the shoulder articulation, and does add detail to he figure once he’s displayed with it.

His articulation includes a ball jointed neck, ball hinged shoulders, swivel-hinged elbows, ball jointed wrists, ball jointed waist, ball jointed hips, hinged knees, swivel boots, and ball jointed ankles.

Overall, Darkseid is a figure that we’ve waited around 2 years to own, and this one was definitely worth the wait as its a great figure with superior detail and sculpting. We particularly like how well the Poly-Stone is used with the fabric, along with the light-up eyes and interchangeable parts.
