Rogue is based on her early 1990’s Jim Lee style as seen in the pages of X-Men #1, which was released in 1991 and instantly became a classic outfit and era for Marvel. During this time, Marvel had relaunched (which was no where as common as it is now) their titles with all-new designs that instantly drew in the crowds. Each of the X-Men were given all-new outfits. In addition, these X-Men designs were introduced in X-Men: The Animated Series, a show that somewhat resembles the comic books but also went into its own direction at times, and this particular show is considered to be the best X-Men animated series of all time. If you were around during this time, you lived through one of the greatest moments in comics history, and in many cases were just introduced to the X-Men as at the time it was a big event.
Rogue is the latest addition to Diamond Select Toys Marvel Select line-up and this is surely the definitive outfit and design for her as its a personal preference for many Marvel fans out there. She is painted in her classic yellow and grey outfit with metallic deco, an X logo on the left side of her chest in black and yellow, and some black deco above that and on the trim of the collar. She is given her brown leather jacket that includes some black wash over it, along with realistic folds, and a red and black X-Men logo on both shoulders. The belt is also loosely around her waist, and is brown with a black wash over it, and the belt buckle includes the red X-Men logo with the belt showing through it.
Her head sculpt is nicely done and includes a nicely done flesh tone, with great facial details that includes red lipstick, green eyes and brown eye brows. Her hair includes sculpted details including brown and white deco, with a black wash over it, Over her forehead is a headband in metallic green.
Depending on when you started reading Marvel Comics, you should at least be aware that Rogue and Gambit are one of Marvel’s most iconic couples, and in this particular line you had to wait 5 years to own Rogue since Gambit was released, which is a long time to wait to pose these two together.
Rogue is fully articulated including a ball hinged head, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed torso, ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, swivel calves, hinged and rocker ankles.
Included with Rogue are three sets of interchangeable hand sculpts, including fisted, open, a bare ungloved hand to use her power absorbing ability, and a gloved hand holding the other glove.
You also get another piece of the Danger Room diorama that can stand next to other pieces that came with figures such as Gambit’s. This piece including a blaster on top that can hinge and swivel. Each piece is connectable, so depending on how many you’ve purchased in the past including Gambit, Cyclops, Storm, Psylocke and Beast, you should have a nice display piece building.
Overall, Rogue is an excellent figure with a great sculpt, paint applications and character likeness from the comics. Marvel fans should definitely look to pick this one up this week at your local comic shop, or online retailer as mentioned below:
