Mattel is taking the WWE brand to the next level that goes above and beyond the Elite figures, by offering a new line of Ultimate Edition figures that features more detail, articulation, accessories and paint applications than seen before. These figures are an upgrade to an already impressive line of Wrestling figures, and the first wave includes the legendary Ultimate Warrior, and new comer Ronda Rousey.
In one of the most memorial matches in WWF (now WWE) history, the Ultimate Warrior and Hulk Hogan had their first match at WrestleMania VI in 1990, making a historic match that will be remembered through the ages. That match left the Ultimate Warrior as the victor, and the two would later clash again at Halloween Havoc in 1998, which is what this version of Ultimate Warrior is based off of. In this match, Hulk Hogan, was the leader of a new team calling themselves NWO (New World Order), and the Ultimate Warrior was leading a team that opposed them. This match ended with Hulk Hogan’s nephew hit Ultimate Warrior with a chair, knocking him out, and allowing Hulk Hogan to pin him and win the match.
Thank you to Mattel for providing the WWE Ultimate Edition Ultimate Warrior Figure for review.
Availability: July 2019
The Ultimate Warrior is packaged in a new type of window box that is styled different than the packaging for the WWE Elite figures, and has action shots of the wrestlers on the back, a brief bio, and an image of them on the right side. The figures and all of their accessories are carefully placed in a plastic tray, which is nicely displayed in the box and gives you a good look at what’s included.
The Ultimate Warrior and Ronda Rousey remain in the 7″ scale, and both figures are given additional attention to detail and paint applications, more accessories and a much more detailed likenesses. The Ultimate Warrior is given his entrance robe that he wore during the 1998 Halloween Havoc. This robe is meant to oppose NWO, and Mattel’s design team have truly went above and beyond with this one with capturing all of the detail as seen in the match. The robe pays a great homage and includes details such as the Skeleton on the left side, the Grim Reaper and a Here Lies NWO grave on his back, along with his name just below his head, and so much more printed detail that fans will go crazy for. The robe is made with fabric, and remains open in the front.
Once removed, the first thing you will notice is that he’s given a ball jointed torso, as oppose to ab crunch articulation that so many of the WWE Elite figures have, which allows him to move in a more realistic way. His clothing is nicely detailed includes details such as the Warrior name on the front of his shorts, OWN on the back, and his logo over the printed detailed on his knee pads, and the OWN words on the pads on his forearms. The arm bands are removable as are the bands on his knee pads that are connected by a plug. These bands are orange, light grey and purple, which goes great with the ring attire and overall design of the outfit. His forearm guards also have purple bands attached to them and are made of a soft plastic, as well as the light grey bands over his boots. His boots are red, with the Ultimate Warrior logo in white on the front of the feet, which the red does show through a bit.
The flesh tone is nicely done and his muscular details are nicely sculpted and realistic just like any other WWE figure that Mattel produces like this. His two head sculpts are also very nicely done, and the biggest difference is the mask being painted over the face, and a battle worn down face paint as the match progresses. The hair and facial details all look incredible detailed, and the hair includes sculpted textures and a wash over it.
The figure is fully articulated and includes a ball jointed head, ball jointed Rosa, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, waist rotation, ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, swivel calves, hinged and rocker ankles.
His accessories are also an upgrade, which includes two heads that are interchangeable, 3 pairs of interchangeable hands (open, closed fisted, and open grabbing), and the ring attire itself.
Overall, the Ultimate Edition version of the Ultimate Warrior is truly a definitive version of the character that every WWE fan needs to own. The upgrade to the articulation and even more detail really brings out a much more life-like appearance to him that fans are sure to love. Every bit of detail is given to the figure that fans have been requesting. The Ultimate Warrior is coming this Summer, which it’s looking like a July release at Amazon and Target, so make sure to get your pre-orders in now.
