NECA Toys Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1/4″ Scale Shredder Figure Review

NECA Toys has been doing an incredible job on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles line and this year is something truly special for fans, not only did they offer this 1/4″ scale version of Shredder, but a 7″ scale figure was offered in this years San Diego Comic-Con 2019 Exclusive “The Capture of Splinter” Box Set. Shredder joins the Turtles and the Foot Ninja in the 1990 Movie 1/4″ line and stands at 18″ tall and includes a removable mask, interchangeable hands, a spear and a knife with a sheath.

Thank youth NECA Toys for providing their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1/4″ Scale Shredder Figure for review.

Availability: June 2019

Shredder is packaged in a window box with artwork from the film on the front, images of the figure on the side, and images of the Turtles and images of Shredder on the back. Also on the back is a description of the film as well as the figure.

The 1/4″ scale version of Shredder was released before the SDCC Exclusive 7″ version, and is a scaled up figure standing at 18″ tall. The detail on the figure is just as good or even better than the 7″ scale version as the scaled up figures usually offer more detail. Shredder is sculpted in his red outfit with a wash over it as well as gold glitter sparkling over the red parts of the outfit, and a black belt around his waist, forearm and knee guards with tiny blades pointing downward and made of a soft rubber. This figure has some reused parts as the Foot Soldier such as the torso, arms legs and feet. The new deco makes it hard to tell as Shredder’s sculpt is so well detailed. The sculpt has sculpted textures, which are different textures than the forearm and knee guards. His head sculpt is nicely done and the helmet design is amazingly detailed. The faceplate is removable to reveal his face with scars on the right side, along with a great likeness and nicely done sculpting. Shredder’s articulation includes a ball jointed head, ball hinged shoulders, double-hinged elbows, swivel wrists, ball jointed waist, ball jointed hips, double-hinged knees, hinged and rocker ankles. The blades on the left hand, gauntlets and shin guards look great and have an appearance of steel.

The deco on the face is nicely done and this figure does have a dark wash on the sides and on his chin. The scar is nicely done and sculpted into the face and looks very realistic. The paint applications on the rest of the face look great, with the exception of the eyes as they are both looking up rather than straight as they should be.

Included with Shredder is a nicely detailed fabric cape that connects around his neck, and the black and silver deco and design look great. The cape for this 1/4″ scale figure is easier to put on as opposed to the 7″ scale figure due to its larger size. Shredder also comes with six hands, three bladed hands for his left hand, and three hands for his right hand. Both hand sculpts are closed fisted, open fisted and open handed. Also included is a spear and a knife with a sheath.

Overall, there is a lot of to love about this box set and all of NECA Toys Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles offerings.  Shredder is an excellent figure with superior detailing and sculpting. Good things are coming from NECA and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and we can’t wait for more figures like this. This is definitely a must for every TMNT fan and collector especially if you already own the other 1/4″ scale figures.
