Disney: Infinity was Disney’s version of LEGO Dimensions, where franchises collide and characters can interact. These figures are loosely based on this game, and have been re-engineered and articulated to resemble the game’s likeness.
Each is packaged on the standard blister card, and the back introduces figures that are upcoming and newly released to the Toy Box line. For the Marvel Toy Box line, it appears as if a new Captain America figure is coming, along with Captain Marvel, and what appears to be a new Spider-Man figure.
Rocket Raccoon comes with a Baby Groot figure and Rocket is based on their iconic appearance from the Disney: Infinity game, while Groot appears only as an adult in the game. The Baby Groot figure was included likely due to his popularity in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Rocket Raccoon is sculpted and painted in his orange, black and grey space suit, with brown shoulder pads, and a removable jet pack. The figure is difficult to stand out on his own due to the bulkiness and the fact that his feet are so tiny. What helps is his tail, but it’s not meant to be used to stand him upright. Included with Rocket is a pair of blasters. Baby Groot is nicely done and has mostly a smooth sculpt with some detailed sculpting on the feet, hands and head.
Rocket’s articulation includes a ball jointed head, ball hinged shoulders, swivel-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, swivel waist, swivel-hinged hips, swivel-hinged ankles, and a swivel tail. Groot’s articulation includes a ball jointed head, and ball jointed shoulders.
Poe Dameron is sculpted and painted in his X-Wing Pilot uniform as seen in the Disney Infinity game. The sculpt includes details such as the chest box as seen in the game, straps on the legs and a removable helmet. The details on the vest are also nicely done a logo stamped on the upper left hand side, and sculpted grooves. The helmet has nicely done stamped logos on the sides, and a translucent yellow visor. The helmet is also too big for his head, and is loose fitting. This could be because Disney plans to use the helmet for future X-Wing pilot figures in a one size fits all king of situation, or the fact that this is a kids line and the fitting of the helmet just wasn’t as important. From a likeness standpoint, it does look good and unless you play around with it or get closer, you won’t be able to notice it doesn’t fit right.
BB-8 also came out great and is sculpted and painted in a light grey, orange markings, silver and black deco. This figure has some weight on the body to help him stand upright, His articulation includes a swivel head.
Poe’s articulation includes a ball hinged head, ball hinged shoulders, swivel-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, swivel waist, swivel-hinged hips, and swivel ankles.
Sulley is based on his appearance in Disney Infinity and Boo is inspired by her appearance in Monsters Inc. movie from Pixar. Sulley is big and bulky and has a great figure sculpt to match both his video game and movie likenesses. In the game, the character has a smoother sculpt and the film he’s shown covered in fur, as if he was a bear. This figure is closer to the video game appearance with the smooth sculpt and some sculpted fur details, along with black spikes on his back and tail, horns on his head, finger and toe nails. His head sculpt is nicely done and captures a great likeness, and includes the horns, blue eyes, fangs and white teeth. Boo came out great and while she doesn’t have any articulation, the attention to detail on the sculpt doesn’t require her to move. The head sculpt has a great likeness to the movie, with brown hair and eyes, and nicely done facial details. He is painted in blue fur, with purple dots on the sculpt.
In the movie, Boo follows Mike and Sulley into their monster place of existence and have to disguise her as a monster to fit in. This outfit is sculpted around the human head, and game out great. This includes a purple body, with giant eye balls on top, grey hair, grey tentacles and feet. The hair is individually sculpted and the arms and feet have suctions just like an Octopus.
Overall, Rocket Raccoon with Baby Groot, Poe Dameron with BB-8, and Sulley with Boo are great figures with excellent sculpting and likenesses. Disney fans should definitely add these to their growing Toy Box collection. These and more Toy box figures are available to purchase right now at The Disney Store.
