Hasbro Star Wars The Vintage Collection Princess Leia Organa (Hoth) & Knight Of Ren Figures Review

Last year saw the return of the popular The Vintage Collection line from Hasbro, which introduced both Original Trilogy and modern film characters for both new and old Star Wars collectors. Princess Leia is given the “photorealistic” updated head sculpt that Hasbro has been using lately and is based on her appearance in The Empire Strikes Back. The sculpt is reused and repainted to give this updated figure the look she deserves, and Hasbro has done an incredible job here. The Knight of Ren figure is based on his appearance in The Rise of Skywalker, which are new characters introduced in this film. They are the servants of Kylo Ren and are neither Jedi or Sith, but they are called “Force Warriors.” The Knight of Ren was released during the Triple Force Friday Event, which saw the release of all these movie toys months before the actual film was released.

Thank you to Hasbro for providing their Star Wars The Vintage Collection Prince Leia Organa (Hoth) & Knight Of Ren Figures for review.

Availability: Princess Leia Organa (March 2019); Knight of Ren (October 2019)

Princess Leia and the Knight of Ren are packaged on the standard The Vintage Collection bluster card, with artwork from the film and the character on the front, and on the back are images of the entire wave.

Princess Leia is updated with the “photorealistic” technology that Hasbro has been using, and even though she’s a repaint with a new head sculpt, this version if a far better representation of her. Her head sculpt is a great likeness to Actress Carrie Fisher that just surpasses all other previous releases of her not using this technology. The likeness is the 3 3/4″ and 6″ scales continue to climb in quality and Hasbro has also been updated paint applications compared to the start of these lines. Even if you own the previous version of her in this Hoth outfit, the new head and updated deco is reason enough to purchase this one, which has brand new deco that gives her the best likeness to-date. Her eyes reflect a serene and captivating expression, and the toned-down wash gives her a more pristine appearance.

The outfit is also given updated deco, and she comes in the cold weather gear complete with “waffle” pattern detail is extremely impressive to this scale. She even has the emblems showing her ranking in the resistance, as well as the commlink device on her left forearm. Since the sculpt is a re-use, her hips might be too big for her, but the vest covers that (unless you remove it), so we can live with it. Her boots are the standard boots with grey and brown deco, with straps on the top part of it. Her right hand is also sculpted to fit the DH-17 blaster that fits firmly in her hand.

Her articulation includes a ball jointed head, ball hinged shoulders, swivel-hinged elbows, swivel wrists, swivel waist, swivel hip, ball-jointed knees.

Included is the DH-17 blaster and the removable thermal vest.

The Knight of Ren had multiple versions seen in The Rise of Skywalker, and Hasbro has only made one of them at least for now. The figure has a sith-like appearance and is cast mostly in black, silver, grey, and there is a wash on the lower portions of his cape and the sides that hang from his hood. There isn’t a lot of information to go on for this character and since all of the Knight of Ren members will killed in the film, we might not know who they were. We do know that they not only took order from Kylo Ren, but Emperor Palpatine as well.

The figure itself has a good likeness, and the mask is nicely detailed with black shades and a nose piece, and silver parts on the sides of his face. The hood is attached to the head and there are a total of four pieces hanging down from it. The cape is also big and a bit back heavy, causing some difficulty to get him to stand up on his own and you have to position the legs just right.

The Knight of Ren includes a staff that can break apart into three parts, and once put together it is taller than the figure himself.

His articulation includes a ball jointed head, ball hinged shoulders, swivel-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed torso, ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, swivel-hinged knees, and swivel-hinged ankles.

Overall, Princess Organa and the Knight of Ren are excellent figures with a superior likenesses to their respective films. Make sure to check these out, and if you already own them, let us know what you think of there in our comments below!
