NECA Toys Toony Terrors Series 4 Figures Review

It’s Monster Monday, and in anticipation for today, i’m reviewing NECA’s newly released Toony Terrors Series 4 Figures, which includes Victor Crowly (Hatchet), Sam (Trick r’ Treat), Beetlejuice and Regan (The Exorcist). These figures are 6″ scaled and have limited amount of articulation, and are meant to look like they’re from an animated series as opposed to a live-action horror film.

Thank you to NECA Toys for providing their Toony Terrors Series 4 Figures for review.

Availability: December 2020

The Toony Terrors figures are packaged on a blister card packaging with a bonus cutout backdrop that are based on their film. Just like the figures, the backdrops are also animated inspired and can be used for display and as a diorama for the figures.

This wave offers characters from different franchises not before offered in this line, each in an animated inspired look and design that makes them look less frightening. Victor Crowly of Hatchet is a perfect example of this, and this figure is big and bulky, in a muscular physique, and dressed in overalls that are painted in a light blue, with a dark blue stains on the front. His head sculpt is nicely done and looks deformed, with a scar on his face, two different eyes, and some missing teeth, along with lumps on his head and arms. His hair is also sculpted apart, and you can see bald spots in the back. Included with Victor is his hatchet, which he uses to dismember people he encounters. He has four points of articulation, including a ball jointed head, swivel shoulders, and a swivel right wrist.

Sam from Trick ‘r Treat is dressed in orange pajama’s, with patches on the front, slippers at the bottom, and a trap door in the back. He comes with two head sculpts, one with a sack with sculpted string making up his mouth, buttons for eyes, and going along the center, and the other one is the demonic pumpkin head. This head is shaped like a pumpkin, with eye holes and a mouth. He also includes a pumpkin lollipop, and the sack he drags around with for trick ‘r treating. His articulation includes a ball jointed head, and swivel shoulders.

Regan from The Exorcist is dressed in light blue pajama’s, with white trim, and green vomit on the front. The pajama’s are nicely sculpted and detailed, and the puke deco is a nice touch. She includes two head sculpts, each one that looks demonic possessed, and one with an open mouth so you can insert the vomit effect piece into it. Her articulation includes a ball jointed head, and swivel shoulders.

Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice. The ghost with the most is the most recognizable character in this wave, and this classic ghost comes back to NECA after a decade or so. This figure is sculpted in a static pose, with his arms sticking up and his legs tilted to the sides, which makes standing him on anything but a flat surface is tricky. The figure comes in his black and white striped suit, with nicely done crisp lines, a black tie, and a white undershirt. His head sculpt is nicely done, with his hair sculpted upward, a white ghostly face, and green around his forehead and spots on his face. His facial details are nicely done, and they did a great job on the likenesses. Beetlejuice is the only figure in the wave not to include accessories, which would have been nice to have. They could always revisit the character and offer a different variation from the film. His articulation includes a ball jointed head, and swivel shoulders.

Overall, this wave of Toony Terrors is a great offering from NECA, with four great additions to the line, each given great attention to detail, likenesses and deco. The Toony Terrors line is a fun take on these iconic horror characters, and fans will surely enjoy the more friendly looking depiction of the characters.
