NECA Toys Alien 40th Anniversary Series 3 Figures Review

NECA Toys continues their 40th Anniversary of the classic 1979 Alien line with this third wave, which includes an all-new Nostromo executive officer Thomas Kane(in a spacesuit), synthetic science officer Ash and a Big Chap Alien 7″ scale figures. These figures join the already impressive line-up, with characters from the first film all offered in this anniversary offering. This line-up has given us Ellen Ripley, Dallas Arthur, the Concept Xenomorph, Brett, Parker, and the Bloody Big Chap Alien. A fourth series is also coming this year, which includes Ripley (Compression Suit), Lambert (Compression Suit), and Giger’s Alien.

This wave is exclusive to Wal-Mart Stores, and you can find the online listing by clicking HERE!

Thank you to NECA Toys for providing their Alien 40th Anniversary figures for review.

Availability: January 2021 – Wal-Mart Exclusive

Each figure is packaged in a window box with artwork that inspired from the Alien figures of the 80’s, and has a great retro style design, and we also have seen this style of packaging used for Alien figures by other companies. These window boxes include a checklist on the back to collect the entire line-up.

The crew of the USCSS Nostromo had no idea what they were up against when they encountered this species. We saw each member of the crew get eaten and die a death that none deserved, except for Ripley as she was the sole human survivor, and if they had listen to her about quarantine and the risk of contamination, the crew’s fate would have been different.

Kane comes in the space suit, which we’ve seen on multiple figures before, and given deco specific to him. This figure is mostly a re-release of the 2015 offering, and comes with a Facehugger head sculpt, melted helmet visor, and a new head sculpt that is first actor-approved head sculpt likeness of John Hurt. Kane also includes a pistol and a light that he used in the film.

The Facehugger head sculpt and the melted visor, along with the new head sculpt are the obvious selling points of this release, which allows you to display him from multiple scenes in the film for the first-time. These accessories are nicely done and detailed just like what we’re seeing from NECA.

Ash gets a new release with all-new deco, articulation, and accessories, and features the likeness of actor Ian Holm. He comes in his blue suit, with a black belt, white sleeves, sock and shoes, and some red deco on the suit. Ash, along with Brett and Parker are what makes this 40th anniversary line so great, and you clearly see how much great effect went into this release. The facial likeness looks great, and they did an incredible job here. Ash includes many accessories that are tools he used in the film, including what he used to try and remove the alien Facehugger from Kane’s face, including clamps, where the Facehugger’s tail tightened on Kane’s neck, and laser scalpel, with acid blood on it from the Facehugger. He also has five interchangeable hands, and a rolled-up piece of paper.

The Big Chap figure uses the same sculpt as the Ultimate Big Chap, which works great on him as well. The new deco gives you something different in this release, and they did a terrific job on this new deco. This figure is given the same great sculpted details and attention to detail that you see on modern Xenomorph figures. The sculpt features the same great details including the ribs on his chest, as well as the high-end quality textures and all of the tiny details that NECA offers with all of their Alien Xenomorph figures. There is a lot of detail going into the sculpt and the more you look at it, the more you’re going to love it. In addition to that, he also has the tongue that pops out, a hinged jaw, a clear done on top of his head that is not removable, and a bendable tail. This sculpt has the updated articulation, which is listed below.

His articulation includes a ball jointed head, ball hinged shoulders, double jointed elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed torso, ball jointed hips, double-hinged knees, hinged and rocker ankles, and hinged toes. He also has a hinged jaw, a bendable tail, and a tongue that pops out. Some key changes to articulation includes changes to the knee and elbows, the bicep swivel has been removed, knee joints enlarged, and the ankles allow more poseability.

Overall, Alien 40th Anniversary Wave 3 is one of the best offerings this year and it gives you such great updates to these memorable sci-fi characters. These changes are enough to warrant another purchase if you already have them, and when you get all 4 waves, this is going to be one great looking collection!
