Ace Duck and Mutagen Man joins NECA’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Classic Collection based on the 1987 cartoon series that many of us grew up watching. Both characters had a brief appearance in the series with only one episode each, but has been a memorable one in the eyes of the fans.
Ace Duck appeared in the episode “Attack of Big MACC”, where the turtles watched an Ace Duck film festival on television. He was only briefly shown before Donatello changed the channel.
Seymour Gutz appeared in the episode “Enter: Mutagen Man” where he accidentally stumbles upon Shredder’s secret lab and falls into a tank of ooze, becoming Mutagen Man. Despite his appearance into becoming a brain in a teal and purple containment suit with the torso containing a tank of mutagen that preserved the remains of his body so he could survive, he had the ability to temporarily disguise himself into anyone other than his human form, so Shredder tricked him by promising to turn him human again if he helped Shredder and Krang obtain a canister of Byndex-3, a substance that they needed to make permanent the effects of the mutagen in the rocket fuel that they planned to launch over New York City turning every human into a mutant. While on his mission, he had an encounter with the Turtles and April and was cheated by Shredder, causing him to switch sides and help stop Shredder and Krang. Donatello was able cure Seymour of his mutation by pouring the Byndex-3 into his suit, in order to stabilize his body and having him choose a final form, which was his human form.

Ace Duch and Mutagen Man are packaged in the standard window box that we’ve seen consistently throughout the line, including images of them on the front, images of the figures on the sides, and the back includes of them, Anthrax and Scumbug.
Ace Duck is a mutant duck that only had a very brief appearance in the classic cartoon, but a memorable one in the minds of the fans considering he had a figure in the vintage line as well. Ace Duck comes his dark brown pilot jacket with black trim, dark blue pants, and a belt sculpted and loose fitting on his hips with a holster that can hold either of the pistols, holsters for the egg grenades in the back, and a pouch. The fur on his chest, head and wings are sculpted with black trim on the wings, and webbed feet in a light orange.
Ace Duck’s head sculpt and overall likeness matches the source material exceptionally well, including the facial details with the beak, and eyes. Both head sculpts are similar with one of them an open beak and you can see the tongue and interior of the mouth. The hat is removable and rests on the head, but does tend to fall off as it’s not securely on.
Ace comes with two service pistols, pilot’s cap, Egg Grenades, VHS tape, film reel, alternate head, four sets of interchangeable hands, and a movie poster.
He is fully articulated, including a ball jointed head, ball hinged shoulders, double-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed torso, ball jointed hips, double-swivel knees, hinged and rocker ankles, and swivel-hinged wings.
Mutagen Man also makes his debut in this line and comes in his teal and purple containment suit so he could survive, and the torso contains a tank of mutagen which is painted in green. The arms and legs are teal with black while the containment suit is purple and pink on top, and both parts have the black shading giving it definition. The feet have robotic looking components, with the left foot being completely covered, while the right foot with the mutant toes. The containment suit has a clear acrylic cover with tubes that are connected to it, and all of this is removable so you can swap out the interchangeable heads. See the video above for a demonstration of that. Just make sure to use a hair dryer to heat up the the head to make it easier to remove.
Mutagen Man comes with seven interchangeable hands, interchangeable head, a tank and Mutagen Machine Gun.
He is fully articulated, including a ball jointed head, ball hinged shoulders, swivel-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed hips, double-swivel knees, hinged and rocker ankles.
Overall, NECA continues to offer such incredible looking turtles figures that have great likenesses to the source material. Ace Duck and Mutagen Man are great examples of this and they have captured these likenesses remarkable well. Pairing these two was such a great way to offer them even though they never actually appeared together in the series. These are available now at Target Stores here in the US, and international fans can grab it now at Zavvi – U.K.
