Lord of the Rings Select Deluxe Gollum Figure Review

Diamond Select Toys Lord of the Rings Select line continues with their latest offering of the Deluxe Gollum figure, which includes a reissue of the character that was first offered as a San Diego Comic-Con 2021 exclusive along with a clear Frodo figure, but also offers additional accessories for Legolas and Gimli that were taken out of their initial releases.

Thank you to Diamond Select Toys for providing their Lord of the Rings Select Deluxe Gollum Figure for review.

Availability: May 2022

Gollum is packaged in a window box, with windows on the front showcasing Gollum standing on the rock, sides showcasing his heads and hands, and the extra accessories. On the back is a quote from the film about the ring of power. Gollum and his accessories are securely placed inside plastic covers that once removed, you will not be able to place it the way it was back in the packaging as everything needs to be ripped open, so for this box it’s not resealable. As this packaging is so special and unique that is unfortunate as it would have been worth saving the packaging just for the appeal and amazing detail applied.

Gollum is a repaint from last years San Diego Comic-Con offering with a clean look, and not as much paint washes as the previous release had. The knees however have dirt applied, which is new, and just like last years release his only clothing is the clothing around his hips hanging down the front and back.

The three head sculpts are very well done, and the open mouth is a reissue and repaint from last years release, while the other two are new. The facial details, especially the paint applications applied are amazingly detailed and accurate to the source material, and pays tribute to multiple scene’s from the film as you will probably recall all of his expressions.

Gollum includes a rock that he can stand on, which includes two pegs for his feet can be plugged into, a black base, three interchangeable heads, 7 interchangeable hands, and two fish.

Also included are two small elf blades that were originally planned for Legolas, which can be placed into the sheaths on his back, and three arrows that can be placed into the quiver.

Gimli also gets a hatchet that can be placed into the holster on his belt, or held into his hand. This axe is smaller than the one’s that he came with, and also an accessories that was dropped from his release.

Gollum’s articulation is standard for a Select line, including a ball jointed head, ball hinged shoulders, swivel-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed torso, ball jointed hips, swivel-hinged knees, hinged and rocker ankles. The legs are bent and spread out the way they are so he can stand onto the rock

Overall, Gollum is a much needed release outside of Comic-Con and this figure looks great. It’s also great to see that they made this into an accessory set by offering several cancelled accessories that you need for Legolas and Gimli. DST is offering such a great LOTR line and we are getting a fun line here. There is enough “new” offerings here even if you already own the SDCC release from last year.
