Bandai Tamashii Nations/Bandai Collectibles is offering fans a fantastic looking Buzz Lightyear figure based on his new film, Lightyear from Pixar, which is part of the S.H. Figuarts line. Buzz Lightyear was first introduced to fans in the 1995 film Toy Story, but this version of the character is not based on the toy, but an actual character within the Toy Story films, and the character that the toy Buzz Lifghtyear actually thought he was when we first met him. Lightyear is a highly detailed action figures with interchangeable parts and accessories, and is available now if you’re looking to purchase.

Thank you to Bandai Collectibles for sending their Lightyear – S.H.Figuarts Buzz Lightyear Alpha Suit Figure for review.

Availability: September 2022

Buzz Lightyear is packaged in a window box, with the standard format for the S.H. Figuarts line. This includes artwork and images on the front, sides and back. Buzz is kept in a plastic tray along with his accessories for safe keeping.

Buzz Lightyear stands at 6″ tall and based on his appearance from the new film Lightyear, and was released this year. The figure comes in his Alpha Suit, which also incudes the Star Command insignia on his chest, and sides of his arms. The suit is beautifully detailed especially on the torso, arms and legs, with the chest featuring various details and deco, including the word Lightyear on his chest. The space suit fully protects him from the vacuum of space, with a realistic design from what you see astronauts wear, and the designers went above and beyond to create something special from what you saw on screen, and brought it into toy form. The back of the figure has the number 02 on the metallic silver part that the clear acrylic dome sits on top of.

The suit is primary a light grey, with dark grey, green, with some blue, red and yellow on the chest as well. The Jet pack is primary dark grey, with some red, and black and yellow wings.

He comes with two head sculpts, each with a different facial expression, and details such as hair, and a purple cap covering the head and sides. The heads can pop on and off quite easily, and either can work for the dome. Each of their faces has some added deco that is nicely applied, along with facial details and paint applications.

The suit has some removable parts to fit some of these accessories, which includes 4 pairs of hands, interchangeable wings, a Rascal Blaster, Laser Gauntlet, Blade, holders for the blaster and blade, as well as an acrylic hook that works with a flight base for the S.H. Figuarts line so that Buzz can fly.

On his right hip, you can remove a small piece and place the holder on for the Laser Gauntlet, which snaps into place. On his back you can remove that center green part, and place the holder for the blade, or the Jet pack as both can be plugged into the back.

The wings for the Jet pack can also be swapped out for the extended wings, which he can use for flight mode.

The Laser gauntlet can fit on either forearm, and is loose fitting so it’s not securely placed on. He can also hold an additional weapon such as the blade or Rascal Blaster even if the gauntlet is on that wrist.

The dome can be placed on by first removing the round pieces on the sides, and then placing the dome over the head and into the appropriate spots. Once in place, it’s securely positioned and completes the look for his space suit.

Buzz Ligfhtyear also features all of the articulation that you’ll be used too in the S.H. Figuarts line. Including a ball jointed head, hinged elbow pads, swivel-hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed torso x2 (top and bottom), ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, hinged and rocker ankles.

Overall, Buzz Lightyear is phenomenal and a great representation of his movie appearance that you need to own. Even though there are other releases of this figures out there, this particular offering should be added to your collection as it offers a ton of interchangeable parts and accessories, along with a highly detailed design and one of the most on-screen accurate versions of the character that you can own. the design team have outdone themselves and you will definitely want to own this one.
