Diamond Select Toys have brought back their Marvel Select Loki figure that was first released back in 2011, and based on his appearance in the first Thor film. Loki has certainly become a well-known household name character, following his part in both the Thor film, Avengers, and his own tv series on Disney+. This figure is given some new deco, and comes with his staff. What’s missing however are the Sword of Heimdall, and its stand that came with his first release, which is part of a diorama that originally came with both Loki and Thor from that time.
Thank you to Diamond Select Toys for sending along their Marvel Select Thor Movie – Loki (ReIssue) Figure for review.
Availability: December 2022
Loki is packaged in the standard Select blister card packaging, with plastic in the front followed by a slip cover, an image of him on the side, and an image on the back along with a description.
Loki shares the same sculpt as the previous release with new deco and an overall better likeness. The new deco includes metallic gold armor that stands out better on his chest, arms, back, and legs, including a metallic gold helmet. He is also given metallic gold silver on his chest and shoulders, brown and black deco on the chest, legs and boots, with the black being a wash. The cape is painted in a metallic dark green that also stands out.
His articulation includes a ball jointed head, ball hinged shoulders, swivel-hinged elbows, swivel wrists, ball jointed torso, swivel-hinged hips, double-hinged knees, and hinged ankles.
Included is his staff that is also repainted in more darker colors, compared to the metallic gold on the staff that came with the 2011 figure.
Comparing this to his previous release, you see the vast differences in deco on this figure. For starters, the deco on the head sculpt is better and you see a better overall likeness. The armor, helmet and parts of the body given metallic gold over a more muted color really makes this figure shine as he should, and the cape is given metallic over the matte finish of the previous release. The staff is also repainted in a more mutated color, whereas the previous release had a metallic gold staff.
Overall, Loki is a great looking figure with better deco and an overall likeness over his first release. This is certainly a figure to get to better give yourself a complete movie line, and warrants another purchase even if you already own his first release.
