NECA Toys Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mirage Comics Ultimate Utrom Figure Review

Ultron joins NECA’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mirage Comics line, and based on the classic comic book series and this is a figure that many have been waiting for! This line actually started all the way back in 2007 when NECA offered the four turtles and April O’Neil, and then it stopped, so this relaunch has been something of a treat for fans. We’ve also gotten Casey JonesFugitoid and Renet recently, along with Claw Shredder that was recently released through Lootcrate, which is nothing but a gift to fans that want to see more from this line.

The Utrom is the race of aliens from Dimension X that crashed on Earth and used their exoskeleton bodies to interact with humans using a front company, T.C.R.I. (Techno-Cosmic Research Institute). They also created the mutagen responsible for transforming the Turtles and Splinter.

Utrom comes in a window box packaging, with beautifully done artwork inspired from the comic series, images of the character on both sides, images of the figure and a look at what’s coming on the back.

Utrom comes in his exoskeleton body that is loaded with cybernetic parts, including wiring featured on his back. He comes painted in a light blue, with a light grey shading, and dark grey components. HIs head sculpt features yellow eyes. The exoskeleton has a hole in the stomach so that the Utrom brain can be placed inside it, as seen in the Mirage Comics as well as in the cartoons. The brain fits in perfectly and won’t fall out.

His two head sculpts are nicely done, especially the battle damaged one that features an eye popping out, and damage to the side. It was too difficult however to remove the peg joint from the head itself when popping it off the body, so I just placed the new one on without the joint.

Included are three sets of interchangeable hands (closed fisted, and two sets of open grip), a blaster, 2 tools, and a sippy cup. The open grip hands are easy to bend to place the accessories inside, including the sippy cup as that is the widest of the accessories.

The battle damaged head can be used to show the exoskeleton has been destroyed, and the brain can be removed to show off his escape as seen in the comics as well as several cartoon series.

The Utrom brain is also smaller compared to the version that came with the SDCC 4-packs from year ago. This new release is given a brand new sculpt, with different facial details and an expression, color and no moveable parts, whereas the SDCC version has articulated tentacles.

Utrom’s articulation includes a ball jointed head, swivel-hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed torso, swivel waist, ball jointed hips, hinged knees, hinged and rocker ankles.

Overall, Utrom is a beautiful figure that fits in perfectly with what’s been offered from the Mirage Comic so far, and fits in nicely with the entire TMNT line that NECA has been doing. This is surely a character you need to army build as you cannot have enough of these guys patrolling the streets of New York, or especially your toy shelf. Make sure to grab him and additional figures now!
