It was revealed in The Illuminati #5 that a Super Skrull had replaced Black Bolt prior to the events of Secret Invasion #1, which was a full on Skrull invasion as they replaced many more characters. Black Bolt was replaced by this Skrull sometime between the events of World War Hulk #1, and The Illuminati #5, as it was revealed after Hulk returned and fought Black Bolt for revenge for banishing him, only to find out that this wasn’t the real Black Bolt after being enslaved by Hulk and forced to fight as a Gladiator.
This figure is the second Skrull offered in this storyline, as Elektra was offered first back in 2008 as that years San Diego Comic-Con exclusive. This release is something special as not only we’re getting another Skrull from this storyline, but is also paying tribute to the new Secret Invasion film that is inspired from the comics. With new interest in this storyline, it’s only a matter of time until more product like this comes out, including movie and comic products that has yet to be revealed. This Black Bolt Skrull figure is available now, and includes two interchangeable heads, four sets of interchangeable hands, and a screaming effect piece for his mouth.

Super Skrull comes packaged in the Select style blister card, with an image of him on the side, and an image and a description on the back.
Super Skrull is inspired from his appearance in The Illuminati #5, and comes in Black Bolt’s black, dark grey, red, silver and gold outfit, with the gold wings, armor, and gauntlets. The belt around his waist has a separate round piece that is gold and red, with a pattern in the gold. The top of the chest piece has a collar that is raised, and his green Skrull skin is shown at the top of the chest, as well as both head sculpts.
He comes with two head sculpts, each with a great likeness to how he looked in the comic. The Skrull head has short black hair, and the other is masked, with the lightning bolt on top, and an open screaming mouth.
Also included with Super Skrull are three additional sets of hands, two head sculpts, and a screaming effect piece.
The hands allow custom poses, and includes closed fisted, and three sets of open grip.
The effect piece clips right into his mouth, and recreates his powers that if he speaks, he has the ability to level cities.
He is also fully articulated, including a ball jointed head, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed torso, ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, swivel-hinged knees, hinged and rocker ankles.
Overall, Black Bolt as a Super Skrull is a great offering from Diamond Select Toys, and something new and refreshing we haven’t seen before. The likeness and attention to detail is just superb, and the accessories and interchangeable parts are a lot of fun to pose and display. This is one you need to own as Secret Invasion is going to be big once again when that movie hits.
