Diamond Select Toys Marvel Select Blade Figure Review

Blade makes his debut in Diamond Select Toys Marvel Select line just in time for his new movie coming out November 3rd, which will be the first Blade movie in 19 years. This figure is based on his appearance in the pages of Marvel Comics, and is inspired from a modern design. He is inspired from X-Men: Curse of the Mutants, and also they used a similar look in the Puzzle Quest game.

Thank you to Diamond Select Toys for sending along their Marvel Select Blade figure for review.

Availability: May 2023

Blade is packaged on a blister card with a wrap around side cover, with artwork and images of the figure on the side and back.

Blade comes in a metallic dark grey chest armor vest, black pants with sculpted wrinkles, metallic dark grey shins and black boots. His belt also comes with accessories that are sculpted on, including two throwing stars and a metallic silver belt buckle, and on the back of it is a peg to hold his duel bladed throwing star, with a place to slide the long stake through on the side. His gauntlets and gloves are metallic dark grey and metallic silver on the knuckles, with removable metallic silver stakes that are removable. The straps around the thighs with a holder for the gun on the right. On the shin guards there’s a holster for the other blaster, and a holster for the knife. On his back is a holster for the sword, which is painted with a metallic silver blade, and a dark grey and black handle.

The outfit is eye catching, and the metallic silver deco stands out with the darker colors. Some additional details are his iconic tattoos on the shoulders and forearms. which are in black.

Both of the head sculpts resemble a great likeness, and come in a norma, and open mouth with his teeth showing. The black glasses cover the eyes and the hair is shaved and flat.

He also comes with two sets of interchangeable hands, which have thin pegs to pull and push into the wrists. That’s smart on a design perspective as it’s easier to swap out the wrists, as the stakes on the gauntlets do take up space next to the hands. The hands can also hold these stakes, but they’re very loose fitting.

Blade’s articulation is standard for the Select line, and includes a ball jointed head, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, swivel-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed torso, swivel waist, ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, swivel-hinged knees, swivel boots, hinged and rocker ankles.

Overall, Blade is ready to hunt down vampires with his arsenal of weaponry he uses to save humanity from the undead, and this figure is an essential part of the Marvel Select line. He’s long overdue for a release and would make a great addition to any Marvel collection.
