We’re getting very close to a complete season 1 collection now that Broadway and Brooklyn figures are released, and for the first-time since the 1990’s, we’re getting treated to some great Gargoyles action figures. Broadway joins Goliath, Demona, Hudson, Bronx, Brooklyn, Thailog, and their upcoming Elisa, Angela, Xanatos, Steel Clan Robot and Goliath (video game version). Broadway is a member of the Manhattan Clan, a survivor of the Wyvern Clan, and is one of the rookery trio, along with Brooklyn and Lexington.
Thank you to NECA Toys for sending along their Disney’s Gargoyles Ultimate Broadway figure for review.
Availability: May 2023
Broadway is packaged in a window box with an opening flap, with artwork on the cover, images of the figure on the sides, images, a description and a look at additional figures on the back. The opening flap includes another image, and on the right he is packaged in a plastic tray along with his accessories.
Brooklyn makes his debut in this line and is given the same realistic style that we’ve been seeing. Broadway comes with a light blue skin, with sculpted muscles and a paint wash, dark blue sculpted cloth with a black belt and metallic gold belt buckle as his only clothing. The head sculpt comes with Gargoyle style ears, spikes on the top of the head, and nicely done facial details including the tongue on the open mouth, teeth, and eyes that are given a black wash around the pupils.
The wings and tail require assembly as they come unattached in the package, which plug into the back and buttocks. The tail is bendy, which allows custom posing and also serves as stability to help him stand. The wingspan is 20″, 10″ for each wing and requires a lot of space to display, along with the rest of the figures (with the exception of Bronx) that includes wings.
Broadway includes an extra interchangeable head, three sets of hands (closed fisted, open claws, open grip and an open grip hand that can hold the popcorn), popcorn, drumstick, moss, and a mace axe.
The closed fisted hands and claw hands work well with either of the head sculpts. The fingernails and toenails are also painted in a darker blue.
The other set of hands can hold the accessories, including the open grip and wide grip hand, which can only hold the popcorn. The moss is small, and is painted in a light green with a paint wash.
The popcorn comes in a bag, and is in purple and yellow with black text, and some great sculpting and deco that actually looks like popcorn. The drumstick is also nicely sculpted and painted, with two bites taken out of it and it shows both dark and light meat.
The mace axe can be split, or combined into one weapon. As he only has one closed grip open hand, it can really only be used on the fight hand, but can also be held loosely on a wide open hand. The mace axe is painted in a metallic dark grey with a wash, and brown handles. There’s also some sharp points on the axe, and the spikes on the mace are also sharp.
He is also fully articulated, which includes a ball jointed head, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, ball jointed torso upper and swivel waist, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed hips, swivel-hinged knees, hinged and rocker ankles, and hinged toes. The tail and wings are also a swivel-hinge.
Overall, Broadway is amazingly done, and fans are surely going to want this figure to their collection. Every aspect about this line has been well thought out and executed, especially the engineering, paint applications, and overall likeness to the quality. Broadway is an essential part of the Gargoyle’s line, and he will surely win the hearts of collectors, as the likeness and attention to detail is just spot on. Make sure to jump in on his line as fans, especially me, have been waiting for someone to pick up this brand and make figures like this for quite sometime. You can order now at our sponsors below:
