The Four Horsemen just released two new exclusive figures in their Figura Obscura line, and these are part of a new small line of Gods of Ancient Egypt, which includes Anubis and Bastet. As you would expect, these sold out pretty quickly on Source Horsemen in each drop that they offered last week, which has become a new norm for them when offering anything in their Figura Obscura line. The Gods of Ancient Egypt are a new concept in this line and we’re going to see some more characters offered at some point.
This is the first-time in Figura Obscura that the Four Horsemen are making figures on actual historical discoveries. Obviously the gods are not real-life beings, but the artifacts offered as accessories that are included were discovered in Egypt.
Thank you to the Four Horsemen for sending along their Figura Obscura Gods of Ancient Egypt Anubis and Bastet Figures for review.
Availability: May 2024; Sold at Various Convention Appearances Throughout 2024
Anubis and Bastet are packaged in a window box with a folded cover, and wrapped in saran wrap. The back of the cover folds to become a diorama of Ancient Egypt, and the front of the cover is loaded with some beautiful artwork of both Anubis and Bastet but also hieroglyphics. The back of the cover has images of their heads, and a description below that. The window box shows in the figure in the front, and artwork on the sides and back. Each figure is also packaged in a plastic tray along with their accessories.
Anubis is fully accessorized in jewelry and Egyptian clothing as you would see in drawings, and each piece of jewelry is detailed with textures along with some great paint applications, along with a fabric cloth around the hips and a hole in the back of it so that the tail can be placed on. The accents of paint is eye catching from the metallic gold to the more muted teal and red.
Anubis comes with three portraits, with two similar with one given an open mouth, and the other one featuring gold on the ears and eyes. All three of these portraits are removable of the headdress and you can swap them out.
He also comes with an assortment of accessories, including his tail, Was-sceptre, the Anubis Shrine” which was found in the tomb of Tutankhamun in 1922, Gayer-Anderson cat, an interchangeable neck piece, interchangeable human and animal feet, an urn, wooden leopard head, interchangeable hands (three sets with painted fingernails, two without), and a gold hand-help piece he can hold.
Anubis is also fully articulated, and includes a ball jointed and hinged head, swivel neck, swivel hinged shoulders, swivel-hinged shoulders, swivel-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed torso, swivel-hinged hips, swivel-hinged knees, swivel-hinged ankles.
Bastet is also fully accessorized in jewelry and Egyptian clothing as you would see in drawings, and each piece of jewelry is detailed with textures along with some great paint applications, along with a fabric cloth around the hips and a hole in the back of it so that the tail can be placed on. The cloth goes all the way down to her knees. The accents of paint is eye catching from the metallic gold to the more muted teal and red.
She includes two portraits that can be swapped out with the headpiece, and two head sculpts, one blue and one black. The two portraits have a different gold symbol on the forehead, and the black one also has the beetle on the forehead. The ears have gold earrings that move, which is a nice touch.
Included with Bastet are six sets of interchangeable hands (two with painted fingernails, and four without), the statue of Bastet, two portraits, a headpiece, two head sculpts, three urns, some handheld pieces, and some additional objects.
Bastet is also fully articulated, and includes a ball jointed and hinged head, swivel neck, swivel hinged shoulders, swivel-hinged shoulders, swivel-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed torso, swivel-hinged hips, swivel-hinged knees, swivel-hinged ankles.
Anubis and Bastet look even better when you put them side by side, and you have many options to display both figures with their portraits and heads, hands and accessories. The Four Horsemen have stated these are only the first figures in this short line of Egyptian characters in Figura Obscura, and these are only the first. It also should be noted that Bastet is the first female offered in this line, which has seen only male character offerings up until this point.
Overall, Anubis and Bastet are excellent figures with detailed likenesses and paint applications that are sure to make everyone excited for these. These are separate then their Gothitropolis line, but would still fit in as these are the same scale. If you missed out on these, you will have more opportunities to get them at various conventions that the Horsemen are attending, and there may be retailer offerings that are slightly different than these figures.
