Thank you to Mattel for sending along their San Diego Comic-Con 2024 Exclusive – Masters of the Universe Origins Cartoon Collection Two-Bad figure for review.
Availability: San Diego Comic-Con – July 2024; Mattel Creations on July 25th at 9am PST.
Two-Bad comes packaged in a brown shipping mailer, and inside the packaging is protected by tissue paper. He comes packaged in a slipcover with beautiful artwork on all sides, including images of Two-Bad, Tuvar, Baddrah and the Masters of the Universe logo. Once the slip cover is removed, you see more of Two-Bad on the front with Snake Mountain and Skeletor in the background, and you see Tuvar and Baddrah in window boxes, with a removable cover, and the other side you see the sides of the window box. The cover that is placed over the figures includes Skeletor using his havoc staff to blast his magic at Tuvar and Baddrah, combing them into Two-Bad. Once the cover is removed, you see the the figures, torso of Two-Bad, and the Mirror of Avathar are in plastic trays, and behind them is a diorama of the interior of Snake Mountain’s walls.
The mini-comic is titled “Hostile Convergence,” and each sides tells the story of Tuvar and Baddrah, and the events leading up to Skeletor turning them into Two-Bad, which is shown at the center of the mini-comic.
The Mirror of Avathar is inspired from the Filmation cartoon of the 1980’s, and includes the face of a hologram that features the mouth opening when you turn it to either side, and the back of the mirror includes a detailed design. The frame is also in metallic gold, with a lion on the top, and feet at the bottom.
Tuvar and Baddrah have some shared parts with Mattel’s Masters of the Universe Origins Cartoon Collection He-Man figure, including the hips, legs, arms and torso. What is new are the heads, gauntlets and hands, harness and the boots. Tuvar is blue with metallic silver gantlets and feet, a metallic silver belt and a gold harness. Baddrah is purple, with copper gantlets, hands, belt and boots. Both of the head sculpts look great to the source material, including the fangs sticking out of their mouths.
Comparing them to Filmation He-Man, Man-At-Arms and Skeletor, you see that they make great additions to the line and fit in nicely with what Mattel has been doing.
Two-Bad also comes with a torso that combines these characters together, and you need the heads, arms and legs to complete the build for Two-Bad. The torso includes a new gold harness, a gold belt and a black lion cloth, but the limbs and heads are used from separating them from the other figures.
The articulation is standard for the line, and the parts are interchangeable with other Origins style figures, including Masters of the WWE Universe, WWE Superstars, and Turtles of Grayskull.
Two-Bad does not come with any accessories, unfortunately, but you can use accessories from other figures that are compatible, or wait to see if Mattel offers a Two-Bad figure inspired from the vintage 1980’s toy and use those accessories for this figure.
Overall, Two-Bad looks great and will be of the highest interest to fans and collectors that have been waiting for this character to join this line. What is best about this release is that you get Tuvar and Baddrah, as these are their first figures, and is a historic set for that reason. Don’t wait on this and make sure to purchase to add to your MOTU Origins collection.
