Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace is celebrating its 25th Anniversary this year, which was first released in theaters on May 19, 1999, almost 16 years after Return of the Jedi. The film was the start of a prequel trilogy. One of the new planets and starships it had introduced was Naboo, and Mattel is offering the Royal Naboo Starship that features a Movie-accurate silver VUM finish for this years San Diego Comic-Con.

The Royal Naboo Starship is packaged in a window box that includes Qui-Gon Jinn battling Darth Maul on the blister. The package itself is mostly black, with the Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace logo on the front, as well as the Hot Wheels logo, artwork on the sides, and the back includes a scene from the movie and a description. The Royal Naboo Starship is attached to a cardboard diorama by three screws on the bottom, and you have to unscrew it to take it out of the box. I however attempted this, and ended up warping two of the screws trying to take it out of the box, so be careful. The backdrop is from the harsh landscape of Tatooine.
The Royal Naboo Starship is given some new Movie-accurate silver VUM finish, which gives it a great shine just as you will remember in the film. It also has six windows on the front, all in black, with the rest of the starship in silver. For something like this, you’re going to want to keep it in the box given how great it looks for display. As I mentioned above, I was not able to remove the screws and ended up warping two of them attempting to do so, so that is why this was left in the diorama.
Overall, the Royal Naboo Starship is a great looking Hot Wheels Star Wars offering that collectors will surely enjoy. Make sure to pick it up now!
