Mattel’s popular Turtles of Grayskull line continues to exceed fans expectations and this upcoming new wave is no exception. As I’m sure you aware this line crosses two of the biggest properties of the 1980’s, Masters of the Universe and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, with elements of both brands given to most figures. Donatello Snake-Hunting Snake-Head is the second version of the character to be offered in the line, which also includes Raphael, Mekaneck, and Rattlor. As we’re still in the year of the Snake Men, getting more Snake-themed figures into the line makes sense.
Thank you to Mattel for sending along their Turtles of Grayskull Donatello Snake-Hunting Snake-Head for review.
Availability: January 2025
Donatello is packaged on a blister card with the Turtles of Grayskull artwork, including Snakes on the top, snake skin on the front of the plastic, and the logo’s on the bottom. On the back is more great artwork, logo’s, a description and a look at the rest of the wave.
Donatello is given some shared parts with He-Man, and given a new torso, armor and head. The bo staff and attachments are also new, and the bo staff can be stored on his back. The armor is painted in purple (Donatello’s color), with his skin tone a dark green, grey armor, black belt that is removable, grey bracelets, metallic silver belt and brown lion cloth, brown cuffs and light grey wrappings on the ankles.
Most of the armor is remaoble, with the exception of the torso. This is also the first time you get a good Donatello head sculpt in this line, as his first release had a non-removable helmet.
When looking at this new armor, think Snake Armor He-Man from the 200X series, which does explain the direction that they went with. This armor and accessories is meant to fight King Hsss and the Snake Men. He comes with a mask and a hood that is removable, and the hood has facial details of a snake and made of a soft plastic.
The shell is removable and can be used as a shield.
The bo staff is in a light brown to look like wood, and there are two attachments on the end to create a more menacing looking weapon.
He also comes with two effect parts that are flames, making this bo staff a formidable weapon.
Included is a sheet of instructions, and the Reptile Wars Part 1 Mini-Comic.
Comparing Donatello with his first release, you can see the vast differences in the armor between the two figures.
Overall, Donatello Snake-Hunting Snake-Head is an excellent offering and Mattel’s Masters of the Universe x Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – Turtles of Grayskull line brings the best of both of these iconic 80’s properties that generations have grown up knowing. We’re still in Year of Snake, which Mattel had said that Snake Men will be offered in 2024, and in 2025 it seems. The Turtles of Grayskull line is a fun offering that fans will enjoy, so make sure to pre-order this wave now!
