Hasbro is offering a special set to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the Transformer comic book series of the 1980’s. Both figures are making their action figure debut in this box set, which includes Autobot Flame and Emirate Xaaron. The cover of the box is from the U.K. Marvel Comics Transformers issue #168 with artwork by Jerry Parris.

Autobot Flame and Emirate Xaaron are packaged in a box with some original comic book artwork from issue #168 of the U.K. Marvel Comics Transformers comic book series from the 1980’s. The right side includes more original artwork. The packaging is an opening flap and you can see the Transformers inside, with the other side of the cover featuring more great artwork and a description. The back of the box includes additional images of the figures and artwork.
Autobot Flame is a retool of the Transformers War for Cybertron video game Megatron figure, with a new head, chest, possibly new thighs, and forearms. In the comic, Flame has red hands, but this figure’s hands are left in black, which is unfortunate considering how much detail and love that has been put into this set. He comes in his classic colors, including red, orange, yellow, grey, and a metallic silver faceplate. The flames on the body, especially the chest all look great and he also has an Autobot logo on his chest. The cannon/blaster can be stored on his back, right forearm or even one of his hands.
His vehicle mode looks great, and has the appearance of an alien robot tank, with a cannon in the front, tank treads and additional details. The tank treads however are pointing the wrong way in my option, then should be flat, and not pointing to the sides. The cannon can also swivel around, which is something that I had missed in the video (apologies!).
Emirate Xaaron’s original comic book artwork looked like the head and torso was loosely based on the Generation One Megatron toy of the 1980’s, and this figure is a retool of War for Cybertron: Siege Refraktor.
The head sculpt is all new and they did a great job capturing the likeness. Everything from the mouth, nose and additional facial details look great. The chest and parts of the body keep that block look that you will remember form the 1980’s, and the chest also includes the scar from the comic, and has comic-book shading, and some printed comic book ink that is tiny metallic silver dots. As this version of Xaaron is inspired form the U.K. comic, he is given dark and light gold, with silver, When the comic was brought over to the U.S., he was completely in gold in the comics. The cannon/blaster can be stored on his forearm, and the top of the tank is used as a shield. The tank treads are also placed on the sides of his legs.
His vehicle mode is also an alien robot tank, with details such as 6 windshields, and a rotating turrent. The sides of the tank shows the legs from his robot mode, which does look strange as there should be armor there.
Overall, Flame and Emirate Xaaron came out great and these are long overdue to be offered in the brand in some official compacity. This set is 40 years in the making and you’re definitely going to want to pick it up as this is definitely going to be memorable for multiple generations of fans.
