Hasbro is offering a special set to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the Transformer comic book series of the 1980’s by Marvel Comics. Decepticon Straxus cover art is from “The Bridge to Nowhere!”, which was released in 1986 and also includes Blaster on the cover.

Decepticon Straxus is packaged in a box with some original comic book artwork from issue #18 of the Marvel Comics Transformers run, and is the version used for IDW’s The Transformers Classics reprints. The right side includes more original artwork. The packaging is an opening flap and you can see the Straxus inside, with the other side of the cover featuring more great artwork and a description. The back of the box includes additional images of Straxus in both sides and artwork.
Decepticon Straxus is a retool of the Transformers War for Cybertron: Kingdom Galvatron figure, and transforms into a comic book accurate flying cannon. Most of the parts are new to meet expectations of the characters likeness, and does keep some parts including most of the legs, forearms, and some various parts of the torso. Straxus is painted in his comic-accurate colors, including light grey, dark blue, red, with black stripes and tones to give him the comic book shading.
The head sculpt looks great and matches the source material nicely, with the light grey faceplate with some blue around it, dark blue and back, and a purple Decepticon logo on top.
Straxus includes a pickaxe and a blaster, which he can hold in his hands, and the cannon can also be placed in the 5mm ports on the forearms.
The pickaxe and cannon can also be stored on the back, but only one of these can be stored.
Straxus’s articulation includes a swivel head, swivel-hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, double hinged elbows, swivel wrists, swivel waist, swivel thighs, and hinged knees.
This comparison shows him along with Galvatron, comic-book Autobot Flame and Emirate Xaaron figures.
The transformation is a bit complex, so you’ll need some experience with Transformers to get this right. He transforms into a flying cannon, with the pickaxe on top, and the cannon in the front.
Overall, Straxus came out great and this is long overdue to be offered as the first comic-inspired offering of the character to-date. He’s had figures before, but none matches this likenesses quite right. This set is 40 years in the making and you’re definitely going to want to pick it up as this is definitely going to be memorable for multiple generations of fans.
