Hasbro is offering an update to their existing Soundwave figure previously released in the War for Cybertron: Trilogy line. This Soundwave figure notably is the first in this modern line to include three cassette minions, including Ravage, Buzzsaw and Rumble. The previous War for Cybertron figure offered in 2020 included Laserbeak and Ravage Micromasters. This is also the first-time that Rumble is offered, which is an essential offering in this line.
Thank you to BigBadToyStore for sending along Transformers: Legacy United Leader G1 Universe Soundwave figure set for review.
Availability: March 2025
Soundwave comes in a plastic-less box, with artwork, logo’s, and the back includes images of him, Rumble, Buzzsaw and Ravage in both modes.
Soundwave is a repaint of the previously offered War for Cybertron trilogy figures, and is given the new molded ridges that came with the Dramtic Capture Series release. This version however is notable for including three cassettes, Rumble (vintage toy deco), Buzzsaw and Ravage, whereas previous offerings only came with Laserbeak and Ravage. Rumble and Buzzsaw make their debut in this modern line, which are actually both repaints of the Studio Series ’86 Rumble figure, and Laserbeak figure.
Soundwave comes in his 1980’s colors, including dark blue, grey, metallic gold, and silver accents, along with red stripes on the forearms and blasters. The chest opens up where you can store one of the three cassettes, even Rumble, although his is tight as the Studio Series sculpt is meant for that other line, but it’s still compatible. Buzzsaw and Ravage can also be stored on his forearms with the pegs being plugged into the ports, and Rumble does not have this ability.
The head sculpt looks great, and he has the Decepticon logo on the front of the chest.
Soundwave includes two blasters, and a blaster. The shoulder mounted blaster works the same way it has since the 1980’s, which has worked well for the character design all of these years.
Comparison images shows some previously offered War for Cybertron Soundwave figures, and comparisons of Ravage, Buzzaw and Laserbeak in cassette mode on his shoulders. You’ll notice that Ravage has been a little different in paint applications depending on his release.
Here is a look at their robot modes.
Rumble comes in his vintage toy colors, and is a repaint of the Studio Series ’86 figure (right).
Soudwave can transform into a 1980’s cassette player, where he will remain as such for all time. The window opens up in this mode as well and you can place one of the three cassettes inside. The weapons can also be stored on his back.
Soundwave is fully articulated, and includes a swivel head, swivel-hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, double hinged elbows, swivel waist, swivel hinged hips, and hinged knees.
Overall, Soundwave came out great and this is an essential release that not only fixes issues fans have had with previous Soundwave offerings using this mold, but also includes two new cassette characters that are essential to own in any G1 line. Make sure to grab it now at BigBadToyStore!
