The G.I. Joe Drill Sergeant Sgt. Slaughter is getting a new figure by Hasbro this year as part of a new 2-pack that also includes Mercer. Sgt. Slaughter is best known by not only wrestling fans, but also his time working on the G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero cartoon in the 1980’s, and has had a number of notable releases in that line, as well as the 6″ Classifier Series line. Sgt. Slaughter is inspired by his 2006 o-ring 3-3/4″ figure that was offered in the Sgt. Slaughter and his Renegades set that offered as part of the official G.I. Joe Collectors Club at the time, Mercer is inspired by his 1987 vintage o-ring 3-3/4″ figure, which was also offered as part of the Sgt. Slaughter’s Renegades three-pack that also included Red Dog and Taurus. These versions of these figures may have been offered at different era’s in the o-ring style, but are packaged together for the first-time, and join the growing G.I. Joe team in the Classified Series, and given some new elements and accessories that were not offered in their vintage figure offerings.

Sgt. Slaughter and Mercer are packaged in a window box, with logo’s and artwork on all sides, images of the figures, and the back includes an action shot with some great toy photography.

Sgt. Slaughter is inspired by his 2006 o-ring 3-3/4″ figure with some new colors and modernized into the 6″ Classified series. He comes in a light green shirt with sculpted pockets, camouflage light grey and brown pants, with black and white deco over the brown, a brown belt, brown pistol and knife holsters, brown boots, and an ammo belt that’s removable over his torso. His wrists includes a black watch on the right, and a black band on the left, which are both removable.

Sgt. Slaughter includes two head sculpts, one with a whistle that’s sculpted to the mouth, attached to a band that’s around his neck. The other head sculpt has a neutral expression, and both head sculpts are compatible with the three hats and glasses.

Included with Sgt. Slaughter is the same baton that was offered with his first Classified Series release, a silver revolver that fits inside the sheath on his right hip, a knife that fits inside the sheath on his left hip, a Grenade launcher, Submachine gun, Assault rifle, Drill sergeant hat, Army cap, Beret, sunglasses, 5 interchangeable hands (closed fisted, open grip, and right salute), along with the two alternate heads.

Sgt. Slaughter’s Grenade launcher, Submachine gun, and Assault rifle all have a great sculpt and he can hold them in both hands. The Grenade launcher has a bulkier design and his hand might not be able to get a good grip on the bottom to hold in both hands, but it’s possible. The removable ammo also needs to be removed on his accessory if you place it in both hands. The Submachine gun also has a removable ammo clip that be can hold. His hats, including the Drill sergeant hat, Army cap, and Beret are all unique and can be swapped out, with each in their own unique colors and designs.

Here is a comparison with Sgt. Slaughter’s other releases in the G.I. Joe Classified line, and as you can see this new offering stands out from what’s been offered before.
Sgt. Slaughter’s articulation includes a ball jointed head and neck, swivel-hinged and butterfly shoulders, swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed torso and waist, ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, swivel calves, hinged and rocker ankles.

Mercer is inspired by his 1987 o-ring 3-3/4″ figure with some new elements and modernized into the 6″ Classified series. He comes in his retro colors, including a red vest with sculpted black pouches, a black holster for the pistol, a Cobra logo that includes a black line through it (this is new and something not offered before), black belt with sculpted ammo, pouches and a grey belt buckle, blue and grey pants, black boots, a black holster for the knife on his right thigh, black gloves with red knuckles, a grey and black longer glove on the right, and a black and silver bicep band.

He comes with two head sculpts, including a grinning teeth and neutral expression, and both heads are compatible with the sunglasses. The hair is brown and given a sculpted texture, and his facial details including painted eye browns eyes, lips, teeth and nicely done facial details.

The pistol includes a silencer,

Also included with Mercer is a Combat shotgun, Silenced submachine gun, backpack, knife, and two sets of interchangeable hands (open grip and closed fisted). Both the Combat shotgun and Silenced submachine gun can be placed in both his hands, but neither one has a removable ammo clip. The pistol and knife also have holsters on the outfit to store them.
Mercer’s articulation includes a ball jointed head and neck, swivel-hinged, swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed butterfly shoulders and waist, ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, swivel calves, hinged and rocker ankles.

Overall, Sgt. Slaughter and Mercer are excellent figures with a great likeness and updates in this scale. This is a great offering for the G.I. Joe team so you’re going to want to pick this up now. This set is also a great companion piece to the A.W.E. Striker vehicle, as shown above. Getting figures inside the drivers and passenger seats is not each though, so you’re going to want to remove the top part first. Make sure to grab this set now at BigBadToyStore.
