Marvel Shop and Diamond Select Toys are offering the definitive version of Star-Lord to ever be produced as an action figure. Star Lord and other characters from the Guardians of the Galaxy release into Marvel Select was inevitable, as the popularity of the characters have grown dramatically since the first film was released in 2014. While Hasbro has been cranking out Guardians of the Galaxy figures in their Marvel Legends line since 2014 in both 4″ and 6″ figure scale, Diamond Select Toys is playing catchup this year with exclusive releases of the figures available only on Marvel Shop and Disney Store.
Diamond Select Toys are offering six new Guardians of the Galaxy figures this year. The exclusive figures are comic based that will only be available at Marvel Shop and Disney Store, which includes Star-Lord, Drax, Groot, and Gamora and Rocket Raccoon 2 pack. Due to the size and bulkiness of Groot, it made more financial sense that Rocket came with a less bulkier figure such as Gamora from a marketing standpoint. Of course, it make more sense for Rocket to be including with Groot, DST just couldn’t offer this due to the cost.
The comic shop figures based on the new upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 figures are Star-Lord and Drax, as these are based on the film.

Star-Lord is based on his comic book appearance as featured in Marvel Comics Guardians of the Galaxy titles, and features a beautifully detailed sculpt. The figure is sculpted as he is shown in the comics, with a red leather jacket with a black wash painted over it in various places. The jacket also has a dark metallic grey shoulder pad on the left side, with a forearm and elbow guards. The jacket is sculpted in two sections, with the arms sculpted in hard plastic, and the jacket with soft plastic fitted over the body. Underneath the jacket is a light blue shirt with darker wash painted at the center, which gives his muscular physique some definition. His pants are painted in dark grey, with a brown belt with a silver belt buckle holding them up. Sculpted over the pants are silver knee guards, and brown boots with a dark brown wash over them in the grooves and on top of the shoes. On both sides of his legs, there is a hole for each of the two blasters can be stored.Sculpted around his torso that can be removed is a pouch that can hold something. The blaster is too large for the bag, and his other accessories cannot fit in the pouch either.
In each of the Guardians of the Galaxy figures that is exclusively available on Marvel Shop and Disney Store, there is a environment base that interlocks to form a larger base so each of the five figures can stand on it once its together. This section of the diorama comes with Star-Lord, and has a stone flooring with rocks underneath. The base in painted in silver with a brown wash over it that makes it look dirty and worn. The rocks however are painted in blue with a brown wash over it. This is one solid piece that comes with three connectors that attach to other three bases on the sides.
Star-Lord comes with an impressive amount of accessories to display him in various possibilities and poses as seen in the comic. This Marvel Select figure is the first time he is offered with a pair of boot-jet flame effects, which can plug into the soles of his shoes. He can only be posed like this with the included acrylic display stand that features a base with a plug on top that fits into his back. The flames themselves are nicely detailed and look the part nicely. Star-Lord can be posed with both of his blasters while in flight, or with the crystal. Also included with Star-Lord is a third hand sculpt to hold the crystal in his left hand, and an unmasked head sculpt.
The figure comes fully articulated as what you would expect from Marvel Select. This includes a ball jointed neck, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, swivel-hinged elbows, swivel-hinge wrists, ball jointed torso, swivel-hinged hips, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, and hinged rocker ankles.
