Mega Construx Heroes Series 3 – Masters Of The Universe, TMNT, Star Trek TNG, Terminator & Alien Figures Review

During New York ToyFair, Mega Construx and Mattel revealed three more waves coming in the Heroes Mini-Figure line. These figures were previously unannounced until images started to pop up online showcasing this new wave. This includes characters from Masters of the Universe, Aliens, Terminator, Star Trek, God of War, Hellboy, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Assassins Creed. Also recently confirmed is the Wind Raider from Masters of the Universe, which is the first vehicle in the Heroes line.

While series 1 and 2 started out as Wal-Mart exclusives, it appears that additional stores are now offering this line, and this is great news as we know that distribution can sometimes be a problem for people to locate certain items such as these. Some of the retailers such as Entertainment Earth and BigBadToyStore are accepting pre-orders for series 3, 4 and 5,

Series 3 of the Heroes line includes the following:

  • Aliens – Xenomorph
  • Masters of the Universe – Faker
  • The Terminator – Terminator Guardian
  • Star Trek – Data
  • The Terminator – T-1000
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – Leonardo (Eastman deco)

Thank you to Mega Construx for providing their Heroes Series 3 figures for review.

Availability: June 2018

Faker is the latest offering in the Masters of the Universe collection by Mega Construx, and just like the original 1980’s toy release, he shares the same figure sculpt as He-Man and Skeletor, and was repainted into a new character. Faker shares almost all of He-Man’s parts, with Skeletor’s harness, He-Man’s sword, and comes with a new axe. The figure has blue skin, with a robotic panel underneath the orange harness, a black belt, purple lion cloth, purple boots, brown hair (the vintage toy had red) and black bracelets.

With three waves available now, Mega Construx is doing a remarkable job offering He-Man characters, and soon collectors will be able to include Man-At-Arms and Evil Lyn to the collection as they are in series 4 (series 5 has not been confirmed). This leaves Mer Man, Zodak and Stratos likely the next candidates as they appear to be following the same pattern that they released this line is 1982. If you’ve been paying attention, they also announced that the Wind Raider will also be making its way into the line, which is the first vehicle in the Heroes offering.

Star Trek: The Next Generation’s Data is in his Starfleet uniform that is painted in yellow and black, with a gold intercom on his chest. Data is a android, and has white skin as seen in the series, and brown hair that is incorporated into this figure nicely. Data includes a phaser and a tricorder that was featured in the series. If you’ve been collecting this line, you will probably own Captain Picard and a Borg drone from wave 1, and now its Data’s turn. The facial details are nicely done and has a good likeness to Brent Spiner.

The Alien Xenomorph is a repaint from wave 1, and includes battle damage with his acid blood painted in green. The Xenomorph is larger than any figure in this wave, as he should be. The likeness is very nicely done and there is some great detailed sculpting done on the body. The claws are attachments, and once removed the hand sculpts are identical to those of any other figure in this line. But the rest of the sculpt is pure Alien goodness. The tail is ball jointed, and while it stays bent, it does have a good range of motion. The figure includes two Facehuggers, one that can be placed over a head of one of the humanoid figures, and one crawling on the floor.

When you think of the names T-800 and T-1000, you immediately think of Terminator 2: Judgement Day as that is what is usually offered. Well, not in this case. Mega Construx is offering these characters based on their appearance in Terminator: Genisys, which was released in 2015. The T-800 Guardian Terminator features the likeness of Actor Arnold Schwarzenegger and is sculpted in a black leather jacket and pants, beige shirt, a terminator ark that is painted in silver, and a battle damaged head with the cyborg skull underneath the skin. The T-800 includes a shotgun.

The T-1000 is sculpted in a police uniform, and has a badge and pockets on his chest. The sculpt is painted completely in silver and is in the liquid metal form. The hands can be removed, which is difficult to do, and swapped out with longer arms that looks like crowbars.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Leonardo is based on his appearance in the first comic books by creator Kevin Eastman. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has seen many great releases in recent years from Mega Construx, and even grey and black first appearance figures that were as single packs and also based on Kevin Eastman’s design. This figure is colorized, and includes the green skin, yellow chest and brown shell on his back. The knee and arm pads are light brown, and he also has two interchangeable masks on his head that are red and blue. Included with Leonardo are two katana’s. The figure also has black deco shading giving it definition, as seen in the comics and is a nice touch.

Each figure includes a figure stand with their name on it. The Xenomorph’s feet may be hard to get both of them on the pegs.

Overall, this is an excellent line-up and a great character selection. Fans of Masters of the Universe, Star Trek, Terminator, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Aliens will love these figures.
