Availability: March 2019

Thor and Groot are packaged on a blister card with the movie logo on the front, and movie images on the side and back along with a character bio.

Thor and Groot are based on his appearance in Avengers: Infinity War, which was Marvel’s blockbuster film of 2018 that brought the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy together to stop Thanos from collecting the Infinity Stones. Obviously, they failed, and the film ended with half of the universe deceased, including Spider-Man and Groot among many other characters.

Thor features the likeness of Actor Chris Hemsworth and is sculpted and painted as he appeared in the film. He is painted in his black armor on his chest that includes sculpted textures, with silver lines around the circular patterns, pants and boots that are also black with some silver deco on the sides of the pants, and arms that also have a sculpted pattern and painted in a metallic silver, with black gauntlets on his forearms. The cape is cast in red plastic and includes a wash of a darker red, which is nicely done and everything here looks like a realistic outfit.

His head sculpt features a great likeness, including brown hair with sculpted detail, mustache and a beard. The sideburns also have buzz lines that came out really good. The facial details including the eyes also came out really well, and he has a scar over his right eye. For Marvel Select, the movie figures are still being hand designed compared to the latest digital scanning and photorealistic technology, and these are still looking pretty good as you get to see some true talent behind the sculpting and design. The axe is nicely done and has the arm of Groot, with the the blade painted in metallic silver.

Groot also has an excellent sculpt and comes fully loaded with sculpted details and looks like tree bark, and given the fact that he looks like a tree, DST has once again done a terrific job giving him the likeness he deserves. The figure is painted primary in brown with a wash over it, which came out really detailed. His head sculpt is nicely done including the exceptional detail on the top of his head, eyes and other facial details.

Thor includes four sets of interchangeable hands, including fisted, and three sets of open hands. Groot includes a tablet.

His articulation includes a ball jointed head, ball jointed stomach, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, swivel-hinged hips, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, and hinged  and rocker ankles.

Groot’s articulation includes a ball jointed head, ball hinged shoulders, swivel-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed torso, ball jointed hips, double-hinged knees, hinged and rocker ankles.

Overall, Thor and Groot are excellent figures with a great likeness to their movie appearance. Both are available now at comic shops, and can also be purchased at the links below:
