Let’s Get Dangerous!
Diamond Select Toys have released their highly anticipated Disney’s Darkwing Duck & Negaduck Deluxe Figures that are surely on your mind want list for 2024. This set is notably one of the best figures sets of this year, as getting a modern update to Darkwing Duck has been long overdue given the popularity and support the character has since his animated series in 1991-1992.
Darkwing Duck and Negaduck were first shown at San Diego-Comic Con and New York ToyFair 2023, and the prototypes on display did not have the articulation cut into them or most of the accessories that are included. So it’s been a treat to get this set in-hand and be able to check this out as this was previously unknown.
When this came in the mail, the packaging is a lot larger than you’d expect, and similar in size to what Diamond Select Toys had offered with Ghostbusters Select at San Diego Comic-Con several years back. The size of the packaging was quite surprising, as the images of this online does not specify just how big this is, measuring at 18.5″ width x 21″ height. The size of this box is something you’d normally see for a convention, so I was stunned to see this offered as a general release. It should also be noted that even with its size, and all of the accessories you’re getting, the set is only priced at $49.99, making this a very affordable offering and a steal for what you’re getting.
Thank you to Diamond Select Toys for sending along their Disney’s Darkwing Duck & Negaduck Deluxe Figures for review.
Availability: February 2024
Darkwing Duck and Negaduck comes in a window box packaging, with images of Darkwing Duck and logo’s on the front and sides, and images of the figures and a description on the back. The packaging is impressive, and as mentioned above it’s the size of something you’d see at Comic-Con.
Darkwing Duck and Negaduck share the same sculpt and are repainted to represent the character, and are inspired from the classic animated series. Darkwing Duck comes in his purple outfit, with yellow buttons, and duck features that include yellow features, orange feet and an orange beak. The head sculpt is also masked with his iconic purple mask sculpted over the face, with grey eyes and black pupils. Negaduck has the yellow outfit, with black buttons, same duck features and a black mask over his light blue eyes with black pupils.
Both Darkwing Duck and Negaduck comes with their iconic hats, which are loosely placed over their heads. Darkwing Duck has the purple hat with the black stripe, and Negaduck has the dark red hat with the black stripe. They also have three sets of interchangeable hands (closed fisted, and two grip hands (one can hold the accessories). They also share the same interchangeable capes, one in this standard position, and the other with a breeze effect as if the wind is blowing it.
Darkwing Duck has two sets of interchangeable heads. Both of the eyes and beak expressions are unique as you can see, and can be swapped out by using a hair dryer to soften up the plastic (that’s recommended).
He also includes a blaster, which his cast in black, with some purple and pink, and that has interchangeable accessories, such as a grappling hook, extended grappling hook, and a cloud to show a shot was fired.
Negaduck has three interchangeable head sculpts, and as you can see the eyes on one, and all three of the beaks are unique.
Negaduck includes his iconic chainsaw, which is yellow, black and dark grey.
The rocket launcher is all cast in black, and can be placed in his open grip hand (the trigger finger doesn’t work with the trigger however as it doesn’t line-up).
He also includes a machete, which is dark grey with a black handle, and a bomb that he can’t hold. The bomb also does not have a flat bottom, so getting it to stand upwards can be tricky.
The articulation is the same as they share the same sculpt, and includes a ball jointed head, swivel-hinged shoulders, swivel-hinged elbows (be extra careful with these elbow joints as people have been saying the figures break with these joints. For safely, I decided not to use that joint so that’s why none of the elbows are bent in this review.), swivel-hinged wrists, ball joints hips, hinged and rocker ankles.
At the end of the video above, I shared a drawing that my Uncle did of Darkwing Duck on October 3, 1991 from a tv guide cover. Take a look!
Overall, Darkwing Duck and Negaduck are phenomenal figures that fans of the series and classic Disney enthusiasts will love. These are two of the best offerings of these characters to-date, and brings back that nostalgia of these characters. Make sure to grab this set as it’s surely one of the best figure sets and going to be one of the most memorable of the year.
