Hasbro’s Transformers Generations Age of the Primes Star Optimus Prime figure is a modern update to the original Star Convoy figure, which was released in Japan in 1991. This updated release transforms into a large truck with a wheeled cab, treaded trailer and a base that all pay great tribute to the original designs.

Star Optimus Prime is packaged in a box with artwork that’s seen in the Age pf the Primes line, with images of him on the front, left side, images of Primes on the right, and images in all of his modes on the back. Included is a sheet of instructions that is shown photo gallery below.. Star Optimus Prime is packaged in a cardboard tray, along with his accessories, which are mostly in plastic bags.
Star Optimus Prime is a Titan Class figure, but shorter and less expensive than the figures at the $199.99 price point. He stands at `just under 16″ tall in robot mode, and is inspired by the 1991 Star Convoy vintage figure, but done in the 2005 reissue colors. He serves as Age of the Primes representation of the Thirteenth Prime, which is the last of the original epic warriors on Cybertron. He is primarily the same colors as Optimus Prime, including red, blue, grey, and black, also also has some yellow, and metallic silver. He also has Autobot logo’s on his shoulders.
 
His head sculpt looks great and features a good likeness, with the metallic silver faceplate and attention to detail. The chest opens up and he comes with an ancient mystical zodiac orb that plugs into the bottom, and Hot Rod can also be placed inside his chest, but it cannot close with him in it, unless he is in vehicle mode.
He comes with a giant rifle that can be placed in his hand, and has its own blue blaster effect piece that can be plugged into it. A blue energy bullet is also included, and is not featured in the instructions, and can be placed on the side of the blaster. The blaster is also compatible with other accessories, such as the sword hilt and turrets/blasters to create a longer rifle. The hilt can be stored in one of the hollow halves of the legs. The blast effects can be placed on the blasters, or used to create a sword that connects to the hilt, and placed in his hand.
As the effect sword is made of various effect parts, it’s on the fragile side and could fall apart.
He can also hold the blaster that is meant for Hot Rod to use in trailer or battle station mode, as well as the 2 turrent/blasters. The hilt and the blue effect piece can also be used as a sword.
He is also fully articulated, and includes a swivel head, swivel-hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, hinged elbows, swivel wrists, swivel waist, swivel-hinged hips, swivel thighs, and hinged knees.
Star Optimus Prime transforms into a trailer, with rotating wheels, Autobot logo’s on the sides of the back, metallic blue windows in the front, and several blasters, including the turrents can be placed on top for storage and with the effect pieces, can open fire on Decepticons.
Hot Rod and the Micro Trailer he can fit inside are also included. Hot Rod keeps his classic colors or red, metallic silver, black and yellow, and the Trailer is mostly black, with grey, red and metallic silver, with Autobot logo’s on both sides. Hot Rod can fit inside the Micro Trailer in vehicle mode, and the Trailer can also be used to hold the big blaster, and the cab part comes apart and used as a duel blaster/cannon, which can also be used for blast effect parts.
Hot Rod and the blaster he can stand on can also be placed on the Trailer.
The Battle Station Mode is the most interesting, as he can be used by smaller Transformers, such as Headmasters, Titan Maters, or roughly the size as Hot Rod and be placed around the base. This is often seen with a Titan Class transformer figure, and Star Optimus Prime fits that description. The torso stands on top, and the arms can be used to hold the blaster or blasters, and the shoulders can support the two turrent blasters. The right side base can be used to place Hot Rod’s blaster, and there is a spinning wheel to the right of it that when you spin it, Hot Rod’s turrent blaster spins along with it. The trailer part is where you can place blasters, or store the Micro Trailer, and the feet can open so that Hot Rod can exit in vehicle mode. The robot arms can also be turned around to the back so they don’t get in the way of blasters or other Transformers figures if you prefer
Overall, the sky is the limit on how you can display Star Optimus Prime as there are many different ways to pose him with the blaters, effect pieces, and three alternate modes. This is also an excellent update to the original 1991 Star Convoy figure that fans are surely going to enjoy. This is an excellent design, and they did a really good job on this one. This is one you won’t want to miss as it’s a character that you almost never see in the brand. Make sure to grab him and other figures now at Entertainment Earth!
